I have just booked a one way flight from Fort Lauderdale to New York (LGA) with Spirit. Their fares were fantastic and for the same price as CO, AA, JetBlue etc I could get Spirit Plus Business Class. So I've booked it.
I dont know anything about this airline really, so any experiences especially with flying Spirit Plus would be appreciated. Nice to get a heads up what to expect.

Well first off, thanks for booking with us. We do appreciate it!
What flight are you booked on and when are you traveling? For the most part our flights do run on time, with the exception of weather and ATC delays(mainly LGA-its just that airport!!!!!)
We are a LOW COST CARRIER, so keep that in mind. We dont provide a lot as far as inflight service, however in biz class, you can expect a pre-departure beverage(non-alcoholic). Once inflight your choice of beverages and a snack, all complimentary, more leg room, a bigger seat, etc. Hopefully you'll get goot ticket counter/gate agents in FLL. A lot of them are very nice, but we do have a few I'd rather not deal with. For the most part the F/As are great at Spirit. We love our airline and we love what we do, and I think that comes out in customer service.
If you have any specific questions about Spirit Plus or the service you'll get, let me know. And I do hope you have a good flight, and again thanks for choosing Spirit

Howdy N587NK! Thanks for the reply, it was really informative. We're booked on the 14th of January 2007. We arrive at 7am at the Port from a cruise, then off to NY to stay with friends for a couple of days. I fly for BA so it's easier to standby out of JFK than MIA! I'm really excited about the whole thing and the Spirit Plus option just seemed to be the icing on the cake. Also cretainly beats non revving for the price! Are you based in FLL? Sound like Spirit is a nice little airline. Looking forward to it and may even see you on board, I'll be in 1A if you need me LOL

Hey Britair, What is your flight number? Once our bids for January come out(usually around the 12th of December, unless its a weekend) I can look up in our bid package and see what line has that trip, and can maybe bid it. Even if I was working the flight but in the back, I'd tell the lead they had best take care of you hehe. I would love to be working the flight though, that would be so cool!!!

I frequently fly Spirit between MCO and DTW, and back. Flying coach class is fine enough. I never had a problem. FA's are friendly, pilots are cool they let me take photos of the cockpit and even let me sit in the left seat for photos.
To be honest though Spirit + lately hasn't been worth it. The extra leg room is nice, not sure if it is worth it for the FLL-LGA leg.
It used to be $35, you got the extra leg room, snack box full of several small snacks and unlimited booze. The last time though I got Spirit + it was $50, I just got a can of pringles and I had to pay extra for booze.

Spirit is a great lil airline in my opinion. The only prob is the congested terminal in FLL and all the stuff that comes with that. I fly to Atlantic City from FLL a few times a year and it goes very smooth pretty much every time.

I've flown Spirit about 8 times between ACY and MYR in the past two years. Flights have always operated on time, everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. It's been a good experience overall. Their new aircraft are a step up from the MD 80's they used to fly on this route. Only problem I've ever had was with the luggage handlers smashing granddaughter's car seat by putting bags on top of it! Aaargh!

I've flown between LGA-DTW-LGA a lot and on board I love the flight. Not much to do but the new aircraft are very nice a huge step up from the MD80's and the FA's and Pilots are very friendly. I have to say though, I have never left within an hour of the scheduled departure time on either ends on this route. But its LGA so it isn't their fault that much. I flew LGA-FLL once one way because it was $57 over spring break so I had to grab that and then B6 home, but going on that route, I liked Spirit a lot. Never been in Spirit Plus but from walking through it at the beginning, it seems nice.

Even though NK fly here to ORD I never hear a thing from them. I'm a travel agent and never had a sales rep stop by our large (50 plus corp agents) office. I never see advertising from them in the local media. IIRC they fly several destinations out of ORD. I hope they are doing well besides the livery really is very nice.

I think it might have to do with paying liquor tax. I do not know if Spirit pays it, but all US Airways aircraft have a sign on the inside of the flight deck door stating that liquor tax has been paid.

I have a buddy down in the training department at Spirit and he loves it at the company. I commute home on Spirit a lot and they always have very friendly crews! It is always a pleasure to ride on their new aircraft. I love thier seats, especially the moveable headrests (I really wish we had those)!

I have only experienced them one time. RSW-ORD. It was the most ricketedy MD80 I have ever ridden in. The flight attendant serving the rear of the cabin was outrageous, telling us during the safety briefing that if there was an emergency, the exit rows were over the wings and he'd the first one out.
I did not like the experience. It WAS the flying cattlecar that Southwest is so often referred to. I hated it.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

Put my father on them last year in SpiritPlus, because it was the same price as coach on the majors at the time he was booking. He wanted to go to Florida from LGA. He enjoyed the extra room and comfort, said the flight was on-time and the crews professional. Check-in was easy, which I was happy to hear because I had gotten him used to the DL self-service kiosks at LGA, which he likes very much. All in all a fine experience, and he got a little extra TLC by sitting in SpiritPlus, for the same price or less than he would have paid on the other carriers at the time he bought his ticket. Can't beat that.

I had my first experience flying NK back in August on a DTW-DCA roundtrip for business meetings. I didn't quite know what to expect, but had heard relatively good things about the company, and know several who work at headquarters down in Miramar. The trip down was scheduled for a 319, and back on an MD80. I wasn't too happy to learn this, truth be told, because I knew those aircraft were on the way out, and were probably not in the best condition inside the cabin. Anyway, I did not upgrade to SpiritPlus for such a short trip (1hr in-flight).
The experience was a good one, all of the employees I encountered were friendly, courteous, and helpful. Both flights operated on-time. In fact, we arrived early on both legs. And the return flight was changed to a 319 just a couple of days in advance (this was the last MD80 the company was operating, and it was retired the week prior to my flight). I received an e-mail notifying me of this, so that I could reserve a new seat. In a way, after I thought about it, I would not have minded flying on the MD80, knowing that it was the last of the fleet-type for NK, and was soon-to-be retired from service, gone forever. Being an AA frequent traveler, I fly on 80s all the time, not that they're my favorite aircraft type.
I just booked a DTW-DCA roundtrip yet again, this time for a quick weekend getaway Dec 15-17. The fare was $78/rt plus tax. Great deal, and I had such a good experience the first time around, so I didn't hesitate to book again. Looking forward to my first experience being in the Nation's Capital during the holiday season. Should be fun!

I've never flown Spirit, but I find these posts interesting. In previous threads, NK has been really trashed for bad customer service, etc. Perhaps a search of previous threads is in order? Personally, I'd have no issue flying them were they an option from my home airport. I take most comments on a.net with a grain of salt. Just FYI you might want to read more...
