To celebrate the renaissance of our beloved and venerable B747 most especially after that sweet orders by LH of the 747-8I, I am resurrecting an old thread to remember all our 747 flights.

Post all your 747 flight logs, year of flight, airline, routing and a brief trip report/anecdote of your most memorable, best amenities, best aerial views, best service and best food.

Also post a pix of your favorite C/S or livery on a 747-----past or present.

Mine as follows:

LH 744 FRA-IAD 2006
SQ 744 SIN-FRA-JFK 2006
KL 744 JFK-AMS 2005
KE 744 JFK-ICN 2005
KE 744 PVG-ICN-JFK 2005
NW 744 DTW-NRT-HKG 2004
NW 744 NRT-DTW 2004
VS 744 EWR-LHR 2003
SQ 744 JFK-FRA-JFK 2002
AT 744 JFK-YUL-JFK 2001
UA 744 ORD-DEN 2001
NW 744 DTW-KIX-MNL 1996
NW 744 MNL-NRT-DTW 1996
NW 742 MSP-SEA-NRT-MNL 1989
NW 742 MNL-NRT-SFO 1989
UA 742 NRT-JFK 1988
UA 747SP MNL-NRT 1988
JL 742 NRT-HKG Kaitak 1983
PA 741 MNL-SGN-MNL 1975

Memorable flights:

1. PA 741 to SGN- my first plane ride, 3 weeks before the fall of Saigon, the emptiest 747 I've ever been on: only 10 pax total----we were pampered with food like first class. I remember the seating in economy was 2-4-3-----anybody confirms this? I was in elementary school and we visited my father who was working with Air America at that time (hence my username). On the return flight, plane was obviously full of Americans evacuating from the impending doom. The PA 741 was parked far away and we were bused from the crumbling Tan Son Nhut terminal building passing by SQ 737-100, TG DC8, Air Vietnam 707-320C, Air Vietnam DC6, Air Vietnam DC3, CX 707-320C,
and 3 planes used for the cargo relief flights into Phnom Penh: (2) Flying Tigers DC863 and (1) Bird Air DC6, then we reached the PA 741 parked beside an AF 741 also flying to Manila.

2. I will post the others next time.

3. I need someone to post pix of my favorite 747 liveries as I have no time clicking on the database----I appreciate it-----
My favorites: PA Pan Am 747-100 in the 70s
BR British Caledonian 747-200
AE Mandarin Airlines 747-400 and SP
IA Iraqi 747-200
QF QANTAS 747-200 in the 70s
TE/NZ Air New Zealand in the 80s

Just the highlights here - LHR-LAX/SFO-LHR BA 747-136 in F in 1978 when the upper deck was the First Class lounge (I was 6yo)

LHR-NBO-JNB BA 747-236 1982 returned DUR-HRE(Harare now, but referred to as 'Salisbury' by the flight crew during PAs)-LHR.

LHR-ANU-BGI BA 747-236 1980? still remember clambering up the stairs onto an aircraft that was larger than the terminal at ANU during the transit stop

LHR-YYZ BA 1985? 747-236 seated in the row next to the blanked off 3L exit - was I happy to get the 'A' seat at check-in but pissed-off when there was just a blank sidewall to look at, and no other window for 2 or 3 rows ahead - even the view to the right was blocked by the 4 mid lavs...

LHR-HKG 1988? BA 747-436 seated on upper deck in M(!) on a very full flight only 2 empty seats on the whole a/c, was was next to me in the middle seat of 3, then the woman in the 3rd seat was up-graded to J and I had both empty seats next to me all the way non-stop to HKG (this was the first year, I think? of non-stop ops to HKG due to up-rated RR engines, 14 hours felt like forever....)

AKL-NRT 1990 NZ 747-200 in J - fab surprise to be upgraded travelling on an ID-90 - great NZ sheepskin seat covers!

HKG-BOM-LHR 1990 BA 747-236 seated on upper deck in M, after rejected take-off in BOM and subsequent delay I missed freshers orientation at Uni.

ORD-LAX 1999? UA 747-400 in J on the upper deck - great way to fly on a US domestic route

Delta in 1974 (SFO-ATL) was the first 747 that I flew on. Since then Pan Am SFO-LAX a few times, in the early 80's; UA to/from HNL a couple of times, TWA from LAX to LHR, QF from California to SYD, BNE, CNS, and AKL, a UA 747SP from SFO to ORD (I believe in Oct 1989 a couple weeks after the earthquake), TWA from IAD to SFO, AF from SFO to CDG, and as of right now my next 747 flight will be LAX-TPE on China in March.

Ok, let's see...

NW-SEA-DTW (my very first) 1994/5ish
NW-SEA-MSP 1995ish
UA-SEA-ORD 1998
BA-SEA-LHR-SEA 2004
KE-LAX-ICN-LAX 2005
KE-ICN-KIX (742!)

Those are all of mine. I loved them, especially since they all had PTVs.  thumbsup

I had my first flight on a 747 in July 2006, and it was absolutely amazing.

BA174 JFK-LHR
BA115 LHR-JFK

Flight was excellent, but the 747 was the real reason I had a great flight. Just knowing you are one of those makes the flight special.
