Hello,

So, you pick. Which one would you rather spot, fly on, buy, etc.

Please, let's not turn this into an A vs. B thread or an American vs. European thread...

anyway, thanks

-Ryan

Well the 345 is hand downs more beautiful IMO. To fly on i would say its a draw, and to buy it depends what the purpose is for, private jet the 345 to fly myself the 345 for an airline, perhaps the 772LR.

I haven't flown on both, so would love to try them before i decide, i definitely wouldn't mind spotting both but neither come to IAD.  Sad

I can only hope for the IT A345 or the AI 772LR at IAD but i don't see that happening in the very near future either.

come fly with me

The 345 something special?! Big grin Looks like I have a different opinion here! Although the 777LR looks pretty much the same like the other 772s, but still it is an amazing aircraft! The 345 looks boring and weird with the center main landing gear... 777 just amazing!

To spot, the A340-500. To buy for an airline, the B777-200LR. To own myself, the G550. Big grin Sorry, but I would rather have the higher cabin pressure of the G550, not to mention the possibility of landing at far more airports.

For aesthetics, I too like the A345 over the 777LR. But......if I got to choose between the two it would still be the 777LR. I understand it has slightly better performance and there is something about the utilization of overhead space that intrigues me.

Is this even debatable? Hands down the 777-200LR .

The A345 is a good looking aircraft, no doubt -- but there is something about the two GE's on the 772LR that is just stunning. So to spot, I would have to go with the 772.

I also have to go with the 772LR for flying. I think 777's are without a doubt the most comfortable aircraft in commercial aviation. I'm not a big fan of the A340 family -- I find them a bit cramped and stuffy. The next gen Boeing interiors on the 772LR and 773's are more airy and roomy.

As a business decsision, the 772LR wins without question.

The A345 is a great looking a/c (my favorite of the type), but I can't give it the nod over the 772LR...the engines on that thing give it some serious beast flavor.

Move to polls/prefs please.

I love the way both look, but to get the most bang for my buck - if I had that kind of buck, or the need to buy this kind of aircraft - it would have to be the 77LR.

hmm...looking at your user-name I would have thought differently!

either way, I truly don't think you can lose with either aircraft.

I have never flown on a 772LR, though I have flown on many 772ERs and the A345. I would assume that the 772LR is similar to the other 772s from a pax perpecive.

The A345 is prettier and is quieter in the cabin. From every other perpective, the 777 wins.

Aesthetics

A345 >>>> 772LR

I just love the "battleship" looks with all the engines on the A345. The Ge90s are impressive but the A340 has more fan area.

Engine noise

A345>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>772LR

I'm not a massive fan of the GE90's noise. The Trent has a real cutting sound, the GE90 sounds quite whiney.

Comfort

772LR == A345

Economics

772LR >>>> A345

Spot? The A345, looks way better.
Fly on? Depends on the airline, price, class etc.
Buy? For myself? The A345, it's cheaper and has no ETOPS issues.

If asked this half a year ago I would have said the A345 hands down. However the 777 has grown alot on my recently and now I love them both!

I have not flown on either aircraft so I can't comment on comfort however the more engines, the more there is to look at out of the window when flying :-p

The 772LR looks great with the wedge tail, huge engines, raked wingtips and tilted triple bogies when landing. The A345 looks great with the 4 engines, wingtips and the differently shaped tail and nose.

Overall for me, they come neck and neck.

Usually my answer also. If everything else (price, arrival/departure time, length of time in transit) is the similar it would be the 345 just for the comfort level. SQ and TG have more room in the back of the bus where I fly, and there is no stupid, 5th seat in the middle as on the 777's of AA and UA.

The 345 reminds me of a big old dc-8 which ive always liked 4 engine a/c,
but i like the 777 better. It seems to be a smoother flight, but when those 4 engines get to bouncing on that wing in turbulance on the 340 they have a tendacy to move up and down a little more than i want for a plastic plane

I dunno can i have both if your offering

i can see for 80 miles

Flew a couple of times on an Airbus A330 on AC. Felt very cramped. I see that the B772 on their website has a full 1 inch extra width to every seat and the pitch in every row is 32 in., not 31in some rows and 32in in others. Sooo, I would have to say 772LR, I am assuming the seat width on the 345 is still 17.5 in., on most airlines only the legroom is increased.
Cheers,

Yes, I prefer 8 over 9 abreast. And if it has to be 9, then it should be 2-4-3. However, we'll see how some -LR operators will fit them out. PIA has 3-3-3 to my knowledge, let's see what EK, AC, or DL will put in.

2-4-3.

That has got me thinking. Would this not upset the balance of the aircaft slighty during flight?

Yeah alot of people say that the A345 looks better, but i stand by the 772LR. I can't help it, it's a damn good looking aircraft. it catches my attention every time i see it. though it looks very similar to the 772ER.

Probably, but I don't think it has a large impact.
