A friend of mine does missionary work in the Philippines each summer during the month of June. He has begun checking fares and they are very expensive...somewhere in the 1400s to 1500 round trip. Can anyone give advice on a particular carrier to check out or agency? The dates for travel roughly are June 5 to June 27, 2007.

You didn't mention the departure city, but I've always found mobissimo.com as a good utility to use to search airfares. They check 173 travel sites simultaneously for the best fares.

true. Go with SQ or CX, with that long of a flight the service will be worth the extra $$

Hey isn't Cathay's All Asia Airpass $999 + tax from LAX?
30 days unlimited travel on the CX system - maybe they increased the price - but then you can travel around and stop over in Hong Kong for shopping and fun too.
MH runs a similar program, but that sounds like the long way to get to MNL, given that you'll end up further west in KUL before heading back to MNL.
You could also also get to other cities in the Philippines like Cebu if you wanted.
The only drawback is there's no FF accrual on the airpass fares.
CX and MH US websites are always touting those fares - plus you could sign up for CX's 'Deal of the Month' email - MNL appears there quite frequently (last month was BKK)

I think you guys have to keep in mind that he is looking for something for a friend who will be doing missions work...not travel for fun. So I am sure he is looking for the cheapest fare not based on what airline offers the best service and is worth the extra $300. Being that I am a missionary in training and have been on countless missions trips, I know that the lowest fare is the fare that gets bought.
