I finally get a chance to fly on United again. We always fly on NW cause the fairs tend to be cheaper. I like UA cause of Channel 9lol. I havent flown them in a while and was wondering how their cabin service is and how often is channel 9 really on. I also want to know why UA would put a CRJ700 on a 3 hour leg? Seems awfully long for that kinda bird. Love the CRJ tho

Hate to burst your bubble, but if you are flying a CRJ, forget about any IFE.


I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

I'd have to say that over the past two years or so, the cabin service has slowly improved as many of the older - I mean experienced - FAs appeared to opt for retirement when the "fit hit the shan" so to speak.

The BOBs are okay for $5 (Mrs. 777fan and I opt for the "Right Bite") and channel nine is on about 98% of the time, unless you're flying over the ponds, in which it's on about 5% of the time.

The CRJ flights can be attributed to UA's contracting out of regional service to Skywest, Mesa, and Chatauqua (sp?) who operate CRJs out of practically every hamlet in the US to any one of UA's hubs. Some offer ExPlus which will afford you some extra legroom, something most others don't have.

That's because there is really nothing to listen to over the "pond(s)" except for HF static and the occasional position report. We could let you listen to the air to air frequency, but just the other day I turned that off just before two Navy pilots let in to a tirade of S**ts and F**ks that would of made anyone blush. You can buy the DVD for that, though  Wink .

I did a ORD to AUS on a UA CRJ and it was very cramped inside. You wouldnt want to be on it any longer thats for sure. The used to use 737's on the route and i miss that. I have to say I never had a problem with UA's cabin service. I always find them friendly and approachable.

I've found the HF communications to be somewhat interesting at times. Trying to plot the locational data in your head while on a transoceanic redeye flight can help stem the tide of boredom brought on by sleeplessness. I liken it to counting sheep.

Get ready for the changes; most of UA B737’s routes are now operated by CR2 and CR7. One of UAX biggest operator, SkyWest Airlines, Inc. operates CR7 on routes from LAX-YVR, LAX-OKC, LAX/SFO-SAT, ORD-YEG, ORD-YYC, SFO-YEG, SFO-YYC, ORD-IAH, and DEN-DTW. Good bloody luck sitting on them from 2.5hrs to 3.5hrs. Just remember to bring along your IPod and a good book. Your set, it’s time to fly.

I have done a few transcons and semi-trans via ORD over the past 18 months. Under the circumstances (meaning minimal inflight service as the new US industry standard) they have been pretty good.

Like 777fan, I get the 'RiteBite' meal. This one is pretty healthy (lemon pepper tuna, pita, raisins, hummous), and people can gripe all they want about these boxes or having to pay the $5, but the same money in the terminal isn't going to buy anything more. The rite bite tastes good and IMHO is infinitely preferable to orange peel chicken from Chaiman Mao's Chow Chow Chow or other delicacies available in the terminal for more money.

If Delta can spruce up its inflight amenities beyond the Sun Chips and granola bars, they'll be a contender. I flew them recently BDL-CVG-SFO and the flight attendants and staff in general were very nice, probably a small notch about United in that regard.

I travel them constantly as I do America, Alaska, America West, Continental to name a few and United is probably one of the best side by side with Alaska.

What makes the difference is their friendly crews. They seem to really enjoy their jobs and seem very happy with their company.

You rarely see angry or indiferent Flight Attendants and this regardless if they are serving drinks only or if your flying up front.

They seem to have a very consistent cabin product.

Since 2000, United has been my airline of choice for flying across the Atlantic and flying domestically, and the service has always been excellent in the sky when travelling in coach. Cabin crews have always been friendly, provided good service with a choice of meals and regularly distributing drinks. The seats and the seat pitch is perfectly fine for a trans-atlantic crossing, though I like to get Economy Plus whenever possible. I've always found the check-in and gate agents to be a bit surly, but would say they're the only ones that have really let UA down in my opinion. My next flights is LHR-ORD-LHR in April, which I'm looking forward to after months of Ryanairs.
