I'm taking my brother on a week long trip for his birthday to Amsterdam and Paris in mid March. We'll be flying a DL 763 ATL-AMS (a plane which I am very familiar with) and then an AF 343 on CDG-ATL.

It'll me my first time on an both AF and the A340. How is the bird? Pleasant to fly on? How's AF service these days? I'll be curious to see how AF compares to LH...I thought LH in economy was magnificent.

Thanks for any insight!

I flew on a A-340 company bird last may and i was amazed of the space it offers in Y class. There are PTV' at each seat.Inflight-Service is not bad, though if you compare it with DL , FA seem to be like robots, yet professional, but some what cold.

have a good flight on AF: DALelite

AF service is correct, some FAs are friendly, but some are "cold".
In the A343, you will enjoy PTVs, the same as on AF 772s.
I think that you will prefer AF over DL, due to better service and PTVs!

I flew on an AF 343 a few years back, ORD-CDG, and it was a decent flight. I sat in the front row of the first Y cabin, had plenty of legroom. At the time I didn't know that AF had PTVs in their Y cabins on the 343, but I was pleasantly surprised. Food was good too.

I got the same impression. I needed some assistance getting my PTV out of the armrest, I figured it was stuck. I told the male F/A, and he reached down and got the damned thing out for me (I must have loosened it quite a bit, obviously...). I was gonna thank him but when all I got was an annoyed look and it looked like he wanted an apology more than a thank you, so I just ignored him.

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

and 747-400.

And you'll be amazed of the exra legroom which DL doesn't offers.

Have you already made your reservation??

HI!

Last summer I flew on an AF 343 from MEX to CDG.. It was really nice!
Excellent PTV´s and good leg- space!
Then I went back from CDG to MEX on a 772.... Well... nice flight, excellent service... but... much noicier and not so excellent space (2-4-2 vs 3-4-3)

Regards, Aeromexico777

Yes I have. DL outbound, AF inbound. Although I'm curious to see DL's new "upgraded" transatlantic coach product. I hear they offer amenity kits now.

I have flown AF A343 on the CDG-BOS route. Service is quite good, FAs are normally very friendly, seats are good (good leg-room), PTVs program are excellent (games, quizzes, good movie choice)... The food was not very good but I guess I was unlucky. A shame that ground service in CDG is a mess, and also the terminals.
enjoy your flight!
bye! rmcf

To be honest, i was quite disappointed with DL's upgraded transatlantic coach product. I have read in the net that the all 777's have fitted out with new leather seats and the new IFE system. It wasn't true. Yes, there were PTV's,
but with boring old stuff.

At FRA we were given headsets only. No ear plugs, eye-shades nor menu cards.

FA's did a GREAT job though!!! Two thumbs up for them!!

Food was nasty and boring. The best part was the haagan dazz ice cream
handed out about three hours prior to the pizza snack.

On the flight back to Europe from JFK, they distributed headsets , ear-plugs and eye-shades.
Alcoholic beverages were on the house since there was a two hour delay.
Usually the only give out one alcoholic beverage with the meal service.

The great deal on the flight back to FRA was that the served snacks after meal service. And there was a little help yourself snack bar placed at the galley.
FA's once more were great. But somehow i wasn't convinced.

When looking back in the 90this , when they had a superb economy transatlantic product. Back in those day's I refused to fly Swissair for Delta had a far more Superior economy product.

I wonder what you think about the DL service.

Anyway, anyhow enjoy: DALelite

AF economy is great. Great food, (usually) very polite and generous FA's, nice cabin etc.

Almost..in the A343, the movies restart every 15 minutes, so almost on demand..on the 772's (at least the two I have flown), it doesn't have this feature.

Last flight: SAW-CPH on H9 on 02/11/09 - Next Flights: 23/12/09 CPH-AAL on QI, 30/12/09 CPH-LHR on SK, 19/01/10 CPH-CDG-

Great thread!

Next month I will also fly for the first time on an AF A343 (also CDG-ATL and vv.) together with a friend on our way to SMF in combination with DL. I've flown countless times on AF but never on their 343.

Sounds very, very good! Big grin PTV's and legroom are the things which are most important for us, seems that we won't get dissapointed!  bigthumbsup

Since I read all the replies here I am glad that we decided for AF/DL despite they were approx. 100 EUR more expensive than LH/UA!

Whoohoo!  bouncy
