Mark me down for KLM. I've flown on them more then any other airline and have enjoyed every flight with them. Staff have always been friendly and professional. Their product is simple, but it works. Their long-haul fleet is fantastic, B767, B777, A330, MD11 and B747. Not to mention their AMS hub.

My vote goes to Singapore - legendary service, great food, etc.

If I were to include airlines with narrowbody, short-haul flights, then I'd say ANA. Also with very good service standards.

Then the other continents (these aren't votes, just opinions)
Europe: Virgin Atlantic
North America: Continental
South America: LAN
Africa: South African
Australia/Oceania: Air New Zealand

I would say for friendly service Air NZ. The bests and most genuine acts I have seen where FA's go out of the way for PAX have been on NZ. However this does not seem to be with all the FA's. The majority are great but there are a few that let the airline down. In this respect, Air NZ do lack consistency.

As far as consistant good service goes, I would say CX and SQ.

The ideal case would be the top NZ FA's mixed with the very good consistency of SQ and CX, maybe even MH.

Asia: SQ or CX (can't choose)
Europe: LH (not long haul though)
North America: UA or US (due to star alliance points)
Australia/Oceania: NZ
South America: no idea
Middle East: EY (heard great stories), but EK has better connections
Africa: No idea

Malaysia Airlines in my opinion, I'm sure 9MMAR will share the same view  Wink

Great service, great aircraft and a excellent hub. The only shame is the lack of a long haul network (frequencies) compared to nearby CX, SQ and TG. Profits is also a problem  Wink

As for the rest of the world:

Asia
1. Malaysia Airlines
2. Singapore Airlines

Africa
1. Kenya Airways
2. SAA

Australia/Pacific
1. Air New Zealand
2. Qantas

Europe
1. British Airways
2. KLM/Swiss

North America
1. Continental Airlines
2. Delta Air Lines/Air Canada

South America
1. TAM
2. LAN Airlines

I've always had a great love of United Airlines, and always enjoy flying with them when I cross the Atlantic. They have a proud history which includes many aviation firsts, I like their livery and they have one of the nicest workforces & uniforms in the American airline industry.

Controversially, I'm going to throw in Ryanair as one of my favourite airlines. They run an efficient operation, have brought the cost of flying right down, have sparked the economies of many regions with their flights and provide the most affordable service in town as you only pay for what you use.

To be honest, KLM longhaul is just awful. I cannot stand a trip over 6 hours with them in the 747. However, I cannot say anything about the 777.

You won't face any opposition from me there.
I'm loyal, and I'll stick with them if needed, until they give me reason not to.
I've made 6 return journeys in the last 3 months that I couldn't have made if it wasn't for them. I like the livery too, if not the cabin.

Other than that, short haul I'll second BA for comfort, if not service.

Long Haul it's VS for me, with nothing coming close to it. AY are 'good' as are SAS. But not as good.

I'm to make my first trips on Aer Lingus, United and American in the next 6 weeks. Ask me again then.

25 ACDC8 : Not to sound ignorant, but an airline can be a great airline even without PTV's, hard to believe, huh?
26 Post contains images Alphafloor : It was a private joke I think
27 BA787 : Still BA for me, no-one id rather fly with. And yes KLs long haul is god-awful especially on MD-11s. I love MD-11s but much prefer the AY product
28 Post contains images XJRamper : I know hard to believe. ------- I'm going with UA and NW. XJR
29 Post contains images DeltaDAWG : May not have IFE in domestic, may not have PTV's yet on most international, may be bankrupt. BUT, No other airline has or had a widebody or narrowbod
30 Jlk : No question, it is SQ. Professionalism and punctuality... can't beat 'em.

38 RAFVC10 : Probably, British Airways. My second choice is Lufthansa.
39 TrijetsRMissed : Qantas should get some love since they have never had a fatal accident. In the US CO is clearly ahead of the pack in terms of service. Just wondering,
40 SQB7E : Emirates have been fantastic when I have flown with them but this has only been on trans tasman flights. I have heard service drops alot on AU to DXB
41 Kiramakora : My top 5 (in rank order): 1/ Malaysian Airlines 2/ All Nippon 3/ MEA 4/ Jet Airways 5/ Cathay Pacific
42 Norcal773 : I'm probably alone on this but my vote goes to OZ. I've flown them four times and every time they exceed my expectations. Their English is not the bes
43 Flykoreanair : For me it is Korean Air Best European Airliner I would give my vote to KLM
44 Safs : For me it's 1. Qantas 2. Emirates 3. Singapore Airlines 4. Alaska Airlines 5. Hawaiian Airlines (only rating airlines I have flown)
45 Post contains images LYRFlyer : Make that 4.. now the real best airline in the world is of course SAS Ok, then so will I : [Edited 2007-02-15 10:52:55]
46 Post contains images CXfirst : I keep on hearing criticism about EK service wise, and configuration wise. Yes, they do have their 777's in 3-4-3, but I have to say, this felt much
