Has Anyone Seen Any Celebs On LHR - LAX Flights?

Has anyone ever seen any celebrities on flights between London Heathrow and Los Angeles International? Both these cities are major players in the media world (and New York), and I know a lot of famous people fly between the two. (Most often on BA and VS I think).

So has anyone ever seen any? Who? I am assuming most of them fly First Class and Upper Class respectively. Do they just board the plane like any other passenger or do they tend to board last or something?

I was on a flight with Keanu Reeves (flying business) from LHR-HKG. That's the only famous person I have seen at LHR and he happened to be on my flight!

He was sitting in front of me, or was I sitting in front of him?  confused  We were both in window seats, so we were facing backwards, he was in the row in front, but as we were facing backwards I was in front of him. This is confusing me.  banghead

I was not on the flight but was checking in at LHR, for SFO, when I spotted Joan Collins checking in for a LAX flight. This was years ago when "Dynasty" first came on TV. This was right after Thanksgiving so maybe she was going back to LAX to continue filming.

A family friend sat next to Ringo Star on AA LHR-LAX a few years back. She has done the route pretty much every 4-5 months for about the last 20 years, and has seen tons of celebrities on the route.

Sort of a celeb- I've been on a flight IAD-HPN with Hillary Clinton. She boarded first with her Secret Service contingent- they took the first 2 rows of the Saab 340 we were on. Once they were on the plane they began general boarding. I was surprised to see her on the flight, as I've had coworkers fly on the DCA-LGA shuttle with her on board.

I guess it was rather predictable this was going to turn into Celebs people have seen on any route  Yeah sure

I used to make trips to Los Angeles from London anywhere from four to seven times a year during the 1990s and the only one I saw was Anne Robinson (of Weakest Link fame) on a trip in Spring 2001. I was booked into seat 2A and got to the gate and was swapped out to the seat next to my brother. I read in a Sunday Times article at some point later that her preferred seat was 2A in First. I guess the reasons I didn't see more famous folks was partly because I was young and not familiar with celebs and that I was usually seated in business as opposed to First.

I've seen a number of other celebs but they weren't on flights involving London & LA so I'll keep schtum.  Wink

I've seen her twice now. Once on LHR-JFK slumming it in Club World on the upper deck  biggrin  and once at the LHR in the entrance to BA's Lounge Pavilion in Terminal 4...I found it most amusing in the first case in that my younger brother didn't have a clue who she was!

Steve Nash flying F on CO from PHX to EWR. It was an overnight flight in the off season just after he cut his hair. I had to look 3 times to make sure it was him but sure enough it was. That was a thrrill for me as I'm a big Suns fan.

Not exactly on the LAX-LHR route but I would imagine that LAX is one of the premier aiports in the world for celeb spotting. Off the top of my head during the times that I've flown in/out of LAX, dropped someone off, or picked someone up from there I have seen the following celebs:

Music Industry

Justin Timberlake
Lil Jon
LL Cool J
Usher
Queen Latifah
Kelly Clarkson
Fergie (in addition to everyday when I went to high school with her. haha!)
Brian McKnight
Glen Frey
Alice Cooper

Hollywood

John Travolta
Samuel L. Jackson
Natalie Portman
Hulk Hogan/Brooke Hogan
Eddie Murphy
Dave Chappelle

Athletes

Mike Piazza
Matt Leinart
Reggie Bush
Bill Walton
Derek Jeter
Vladimir Guerrero
Eric Karros
Tiger Woods (pre TIGER WOODS if you know what I mean)
Kelly Slater

and there have been many more that I can't think of at the moment. If I can I'll make another list, but needless to say LAX is truly a mecca for spotting of all kinds. However, out of all those celebs the only person that I've ever seen there that I was truly awestruck by seeing in person at LAX was Capt. Al Haynes. I would suppose that and a.nutter would be in his presence though!  biggrin

Speaking of LHR-LAX specifically, my mom was on the same BA flight as Victoria Beckham a couple of years ago. I once met Jenna Jameson after she came (no pun intended) off a US Airways flight she shared with my best friend (pre-9/11). For some reason, she was in PIT. I once flew on the same US A321 with Lilly Tomlin but the funny thing is, I have seen many more celebrities on the ground, having grown up in L.A., that I ever saw in the air.

I was on a BA 747 LHR - LAX back in Feb '06. I was in the line for boarding and heard a commotion behind me, turned to see what the deal was, and it was a bunch of teenage girls making a fuss over the fact that Orlando Bloom was making his way through the terminal. He went through Fast Track right as I was going through regular boarding, and I stepped to one side to let him through. He nodded thanks, I followed him down the jetway, then he turned left to first and I turned right to cattle class.

Joe DiMaggio was next to me on a buffalo-Miami flight back in 1987, when we were inside the plane, the flight was cancelled...then I flew Buffalo-NY-Miami...and much to my surprise I saw him again deboarding a different plane once I arrived to Miami.

Tony Parker was on my flight on SQ 12 from NRT-LAX. Dude was coming from the world basketball championship after his poor performance representing France. Tony boarded just like anyone else and very few people in Japan noticed him. He was coming with his fiancee Eva Longoria who did not stand out at all. I didn't get his autograph because i hate the San Antonio Spurs. Lakers all the way.

LHR-LAX in F: James Garner (of The Rockford Files, amongst others!) in 1978 on a BA 747-136 - he was playing chess in the upper-deck lounge for most of the flight - I got an autographed photo (whoopee - I was 6 years old!)

LAX-LHR 1999: Naomi Campbell - who refused the regular meal service but who called the purser midway across the Atlantic and requested something to eat (purser - my sister - devilishly suggested 'three cheese tortellini' or similar) after finishing, Ms.Campbell went to the lav about an hour out from landing only to re-appear right before touchdown...better than 'The Sun', this thread...!

Thats exactly what I thought....and I started the thread!

If you guys can keep it to LHR - LAX (and vise versa) specifically, it would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Thats not entirely true is it now. Hundreds of millionaires fly commercially, hence this thread being started! They might not be 'important' in your eyes, but they certainly are rich still. But that doesn't mean to say they have to use private transport!

I wasn't claiming that millionaires don't fly on commercial flights (topic of this thread is 'famous people' or 'celebrities' rather than millionaires, isn't it?), but just pointing out that quite a considerable number of important/influential/famous/rich people wouldn't travel on commercial flights. Private flying means flexibility and privacy that you simply don't get on commercial flights.

You don't have to fly on private jets to be rich, but generally you need to be rich to fly on private jets!  Wink And that is particularly true on sectors such as LON-LAX!

On BA and going LHR-LAX Eric Clapton was on my flight, he was in Frist and I was in Club so we just shared some time in the First Class Lounge LHR. Discreet guy, nearly didn't recognise him althought other people didn't hesitate to come up and just say thank you for the music I guess.

When I worked for QX, I checked in Harrold Reynolds once when he was on his way back to Bristol right before the MLB season began. He lives in Oregon, and grew up in Corvallis. This was, of course, before he got fired at ESPN.

I didn't claim that famous people do not travel on commerical aircraft. What I did say, which was meant slightly tongue-in-cheek, was that a certain 'type' of passenger is generally not seen on commercial flights for various reasons.
