This thread is to kill bordem... How would you improve your favoruite airline. You can include routes, aircraft, cabins, airports etc...
I would pick Malaysia Airlines to improve:
- Scrap plans to serve BNE via SYD; insted operate the route with a Long Haul configured A332.
- Re-Introduce Manchester, UK; this time with the 2 Class 772ER.
- Beef up European cities such as ZRH and FRA.
- Re-direct KUL-ARN-EWR to KUL-AMS-EWR.
- Improve services and frequencies into Major SkyTeam hubs such as FCO, AMS and CDG. Make arrivals/departures into departure banks within SkyTeam hubs for connecting traffic.
- Make other routes into Daily services by using smaller or more suited aircraft for the route. An example of this would have been the situation at MAN.
- Improve Europe-KLIA-Austrlia/Asian-KLIA-Europe connections
- Add A319/A320s or B73G/B738s to the short haul fleets to replace the current less economical 734s.
- Add PTV's and AVOD across the whole fleet to match similar products offered by Asian Majors CX and SQ.
- Introudce a new product onboard the A330s to match regional offerings by SQ and CX.
- Convert some A330s into International product similar to the 777 and 747.
- Exchange order for A380s to A350s and internship A330s.
- Order a mixture of B748i's and 773ER's to replace B744s..
- Replace short-haul 734s with either A319/A320s or B73G/B738s.
- Push for an entry into SkyTeam
Just some of the things I would like to do to MH...

Hi Rob. I am not surprise why you choose MH.
As for me, I would like MH to improve on the followings:
To be a pure private company with no inteference from the government what so ever.
To separate their international and domestic+regional operations by creating two entities, ala SQ - MI.
The domestic+regional entity has to replace all 39 B734s, which they currently used to B73NGs, equip it with ptvs and work on strategies to fight AK.
The international entity on the other hand have to focus only on long haul operation, getting new routes, add more economical frames and give SQ the REAL competition. They may start by serving every routes that SQ serves, while keeping BEY, ARN and Kaohsiung, which SQ don't served. Important: turn EZE into a profitable route!
I want them to cut again some 3,000 workers more. They are not in the "productive" level with their current employee number. For a start, it can be done by installing the automated check in machine at all Malaysian airports (so far there's none of such thing throughout the country) and encourage passengers to buy ticket online.
Ongoing staff training, I mean more training. Some of their flight attendants are quite "stupid" and didn't know what was happening inside their company.
MH should introduce a different uniform to the ground staff and leave the V neck green kebaya exclusively to the flight attendants in the air. Hence, put more aggresive effort in promoting the image of "Malaysia Girls", the "original girl" with history as early as way back during the time of Malayan Airways and MSA.
To build up a solid brand. Make MH associated with excellent flying experience, superb inflight services and a revolutionary airline, like SQ.
Dump the idea of joining SkyTeam, and start gearing itself to be an independent, non alliance associated carrier, like EK.
Strengthen their website, make it easier to navigate and leave all craps such as one can't purchase a ticket online if he/she is intended to fly within 3 days time. Make it on time, real basis where passenger can purchase a ticket online for a flight, which will depart in an hour or less. Also, online check in and the ability for all passengers to choose their seat online. Use more technologies and computers, thus can get rid of more workers. Applies the same to their Enrich FFP program too. Make it like online banking where miles are credited while the passengers walk their way to board the aircraft, not 3 months after numerous notices. Get rid of the staff at the Enrich Customer Service Center, employ more "resourceful" person for that simple job, not a m*r*n. Good service with a smile worths nothing if the staff are stupid.
Emphasize in strict financial control and management. Everything has to be profit oriented.

Bahamasair.. I believe it could be so much more...
Name: change to JetCaribe or Atlantis
737-800 for long flights (DFW/LAX/ORD/SFO/GEG/BOS/YYZ/YYC/YUL/PHX/LAS/..etc)
737-200 for midflights (CLT/MIA/ATL/FLL/MCO/HAV/MEX/CUN/NYC/WAS/MSY/PHL/..etc)
E170 for shorthaul (RDU/BNA/IND/MBJ/AUA/STT/BDA/STL/CUN/ ..etc)
Q2/Q3 for interisland (intra-Bahamas, intra-Caribbean)
Lounges in NAS and BDA.. co-access to US/UA lounges in CLT/WAS/ORD/PHX/PHL/etc..
Inside aircraft.. blue-green leather seats; one class seating (as this IS a leisure destination mostly); meals on 738, snacks on 732/E70, drinks on Q2/Q3
Push as national carrier for both Bahamas and Bermuda
Eventually grab some 788 for EU/South American/Asian
Start E70 routes as weekly to see how they work.. eventually move to daily if applicable..
Luggage allowance of 1 carry on and 1 50lb check.. able to check up to 2 bags, up to 120lbs total... anything over charge $10/lb.
Uniform less formal with polo shirt and slacks
Continue alliance with US and initiate alliance with AerLingis, jetBlue, Frontier, Interjet, Westjet, Southwest, and GOL.. (called AllianceFare)
*****just some random thoughts I had floating around.. I do believe BahamasAir could be so much MORE..

Well since my favorite airline is United, I would improve in the following areas, granted they had the money to do all this:
-Order more Airbus A319's and A320s for Mainline (Add an additional row of F class to both the 319 and 320)
OR...put all Airbus under the Ted banner and order 737NG's for their domestic short/medium haul routes
-Replace the 747-400 with 747-8
-Replace the 767s (and eventually the 777s in the very very long run) with 787s
-Retire all 737s
-Add winglets and modernize the 757's
-Consoidate express carriers/fleet by only utilizing Embraer Aircraft (E120, E145, E170), I realize that this isnt up to UAL and not entirely possible
-Bring complimentary meal service back to coach on all flights over 2.5 hours
-Get new uniforms for the F/As and CSR's similar to DL's (Ive heard rumors that theyre in the process of doing so)
-Create a new Y class cabin similar to DLs new Y class
-Hot Meal service on Explus routes in United First on flights over 2.5 hours
-15K Mileage Plus upgrades cleared the moment you put your request in like US and DL
-Large increase in domestic mainline service from LAX and IAD
-Increase in Europe routes from LAX, SFO, and DEN
-More cities to Central America
-Add more cities to Europe to compete with DL and CO
-Modernize facilites in LAX, IAD, and ORD
-Add more P.S. routes
I realize a lot of these ideas wont happen, but these are just some things that I would like to see happen in an ideal world...

hmmm where to begin with SAS
Order the A320 and replace the MD-80s to simplify the fleet
Shift the 737NGs to Snowflake if that's still around and maybe add winglets to them.
Order more A330s and in the long term, maybe A350s or 787s.
Upgrade the IFE to AVOD for all classes (which I've heard from my relatives who flew SK last Saturday to IAD will happen)
Add more routes to the US like SFO and maybe LAX (EWR, SEA, ORD, and IAD isn't enough).
Resume service to PVG.
Add a CPH-ICN flight as well as CPH-KIX.
Make ARN more of a long haul hub. Have it be like their equivalent of LH's MUC hub.

oh yes I forgot one thing about SK,
they need more options for food as opposed to playing (or shall I say plating) the lottery as far as dishes go. I'd rather have a choice between something on board as opposed to being totally oblivious to what they serve. Either that or knowing what you can pre-order for your meal.

- Add more 737s, possibly other -NG variants on top of the B738, eliminating the need to lease Transavia birds each winter. (Will go along with a service increase, described below).
- Reconfigure N806SY so it is the same as the other 738s.
- Fly to more places, especially in the middle of the country (i.e. Chicago), but keep food on those new, shorter flights if possible.
- New IFE, either LiveTV or some sort of AVOD thing. iPod connections would be great as well.
- New uniforms - still using blue/yellow, but better looking for F/As, and more classy for gate/ticket agents (who currently just wear sweatshirt/poncho/light jacket type things that I don't know how to describe.
- Have interline agreements that will work in case of cancellations to rebook passengers, but otherwise don't join any alliances or start connecting flights.
- Add more cities, especially in the middle of the country, like Chicago for instance.
- Don't start any routes that don't involve MSP, DFW, or IFP.

Some quick thoughts on United:
- Get a significant presence (international most importantly, but domestic too) in NYC. Right now it's just ORD, DEN, LAX, SFO and IAD. Pretty pathetic for one of the largest airlines in the world. And none of this codeshare crap - own metal/composite!
- Order 748 to replace 744, 787 to replace 767, 319 and 318 to replace 733 and 735 (can also move some 737 flights to Explus on E190s). Order 321s to replace 757s on shorter routes and move them over to longer routes (transatlantic P.S perhaps?)
7 billion, one nation, imagination...it's a beautiful day

For me, El Al:
-new seats in Y in all the fleet
-PTVs with AVOD in all the fleet
-order 12 787s to replace the ageing fleet of 757s and 767s.As an interim solution, withdrawal of the 762s which should be replaced by newer and refurbished 763s.
-order some 739ER for the minor European routes
-order 77Ws and 748Is ro replace the 744s
-add MAN route
-CDG: I would like the CDG-TLV route back with 777s, and soon 787s I hope!

I could see the 748 to replace the 744
I could see the 787 to replace the 767
I could see the 319 but not the 318
I could see some 737-700, 738 and E90 entering the fleet
I could not see 321s at all.. ever.. the only replacement I can see for the 757 is either another 757 or a 739XLR
Aaa... what a compliment. But I have received some replies from fellow A.Netters, saying that I shoudn't be considered of even becoming a MH employee.
Quoting VHVXB (Reply 9): How about serving LAX via Chinese city PVG, PEK or HKG instead of TPE??
Based on fact, MH used to served LAX via NRT but they switched to TPE because they want to serve LAX daily (they can't do it via NRT). But from my reading, I found out that TPE was not the best place for MH due to BG's and China Airlines cheaper offerings to LAX and also, TPE is not a base/place of potential high yielding passengers. PVG or PEK would be interesting, if MH can get a 5th or 6th freedom right to operate flights to LAX via those cities. But then again, China might protect their own carriers and won't grant the rights. Operating LAX from HKG would be impossible, I think. Too many carriers have served the routes.

true not mention they are top quality carriers
Quoting 9MMAR (Reply 13): TPE is not a base/place of potential high yielding passengers.
indeed and HKG, ICN, NRT and KIX already have established carriers serving these routes thats why mainland China seems like best option IMO, but there is the hurdle of overcoming the Chinese government like you mentioned

WestJet Is mine, obviously. I don't have very many ways to improve it right now, it being so great as it is.
Larger portions of complimentary soft drinks, as opposed to the tiny plastic cup used by most LCCs.
Allow purchases of all buy-on-board snacks on all flights, instead of being limited only to flights longer than 2.5 hours.
Golden bars that go all the way around the pilots cuff, instead of those stupid half ones.
WestJet's Aircraft are great as they are, WS wouldn't be WS if they got anything other than 737s.
I believe WestJet is headed in the right direction.
