I am gong to the Far East in Septemeber, I wanted to hear recommendations on what will be more enjoyable - SQ J class or TG J Class on the A345 from NY to the Far East?
Are the new TG seats in the A345 better than the SQ J class seats? Any chance the new SQ J Class seats in the 77W will be fitted inb the A345?

First question: what is your destination? That could pay a factor, because time is money..

No chance for that, but I would think you should go with SQ

If you are planning to go to the Far East than your checked luggage will have to connect and as far as I am aware BKK is having troubles doing that

The crew are incosistent with Thai, but amazing with SQ generally

The airport is also quite nice and if you have a long layover you can get a free tour in Singapore

Thai may be a price factor though

Regards

Better IFE?
Better Food?

They don't have it, and as far as I know, they will never have it.

Take SQ all the way, experience and stories have all been in SQ's favor.

Why not CX directly to HKG? Unless you're after a Star Alliance carrier?

My thoughts as well. CO and CX both fly non-stop to HKG - and CX is better than CO (and pretty much all the main carriers except SQ and EK) generally. But if you really want SQ or TG, then go with SQ.

I would also suggest CX as I personally prefer them over SQ and TG. However if you want to stick with Star Alliance, then I guess SQ is probably a better option. Though I hear TG is a lot cheaper than SQ on these runs, so if you are price sensitive, TG is not an overly bad choice given the price they charge. Have a good trip.

Isn't time money, for instance isn't SQ nonstop to SIN 20 hours long and then you have to backtrack another 4-5 hrs. Similar with TG. The only common sense thing would be to take the non-stop from JFK/EWR or at least the one-stop from CX. I like flying but not that much.

1. Its not 20 hours, closer to 17/18
2. As some have guessed above I am looking for Star Alliance partners. The only other option would ave been ANA or Air Canada, but nothing was avaialable in J or F class. My first choice was on AC, NYC - YYZ - HKG in 77W.
I am using mileage.

I ended up getting:
Leg 1 - Singapore Airlines 21 - 23:00 Newark NJ (EWR), US - 05:40 Singapore Changi (SIN), SG

18h40m
Singapore Airlines, Meal, 345

Leg 2 - United Airlines 896 - 06:45 Singapore Changi (SIN), SG - 10:35 Hong Kong (HKG), HK

3h50m
United Airlines, Breakfast, 744

Leg 1 - Singapore Airlines 2 - 21:55 Hong Kong (HKG), HK - 19:25 San Francisco CA (SFO), US

12h30m
Singapore Airlines, Meal, 744

Leg 2 - United Airlines 16 - 22:10 San Francisco CA (SFO), US - 06:27 New York JFK NY (JFK), US

5h17m
United Airlines, Boeing 757

If your using mileage, and TG and SQ are the only choice and the price would then be the same. CHOOSE SQ, much better IMHO
