Which classic Airline Logo means the most to you? Im not going to go out on a limb here and try and name all of the countless choices...but were talking anywhere from the NW compass to the Qantas kangaroo...

Predictably according to my username, Im going to side with the Delta Widget~

Almost no image in not only the aviation world but all other environments strikes such a sentimental chord...Delta is the airline I grew up on and the original inspiration for my consistent and undeniable interest in aviation.

The Pan Am globe or the classic United shield. Or three red letters in bold: T W A.

Stuff the widget.

It's a toss between these two.

Delta widget was arguably one of the best. Pan Am's "Blue Ball" was at one time one of the world's most recognized logos. Hugh's Airwest flying banana was great. Who didn't like PSA's smile. We all like Johny Cash on Alaka's tail. ANA for the wildest. Western Pacific for intersting. TWA two globes were nice. American is timeless with shiney polished aluminum with lightning bolt or red, white and blue stipe. Aircal for the pretiest stripes color combo. Value Jet, we all liked the "critter". Virgin Atalantic wins for hot chick nose art. British Airways for class. Southwest for the upside down hotdog however most recognizable in the USA. Jetblue has cool multi tails. Original America West for a fesh new recognizable look in the sky with an Arizona look to it.
Airtran wins for what looks alot like a flying tennis shoe. USair has never really found it's colors until now. 1970's Northwest Orient and Continental had a very nice look with red and golden tails. Eastern and Western both had best propeller airplane logo's hands down. My favorite no doubt was Braniff. From El Dorado look to All 3 of it's flying colors schemes they just out cooled 'em all.....Thier airplanes made the skies fun. The Big Orange 747 was the coolest thing in the sky in it's heyday.

I think the Pan Am globe is the gold standard for classic logos, but the National Airlines Sun God logo is by far my favorite.

Signed.

Those two are the definitive Airline logos in the United States. You could probably show those to a child who was born in 2000 and they'd be able to tell you what they were. The rest of us are just congregation.

For me it is definately the stylised crane logo of Lufthansa, as it was designed and introduced with "Deutsche Luftreederei" in 1919. Despite its age of 88 years it still appears very modern and contemporary to me.

Put me down for LH as well, after all those years, it's still going strong. To me it's both nostalgic and modern at the same time.

My first thought was Pan Am. But the LH logo is also quite the classic! I had no idea it was that old. I thought it was from the 60s or late 50s.

I like the Republic logo before it was bought by Northwest Orient.

Anyone have a picture of it to post? It was a blue/green duck(mallard) silhouette in a circle, I believe.  bigthumbsup

I definitely agree, its one of the best timeless logos out there. I'd also vote for the old British Airways logo, before the current Union Flag ''Chatham Dockyard" theme.

1) Coke
2) McDonalds
3) American Airlines...

I personally think the classic logos are
The classic United "U", AA, TW, and PA, and of course the Widget

I got to go with AA. The logo is both vintage but timeless. AA is one of the few carriers that still features a cheat-line in their livery. It may not be the most impressive paint scheme but seeing anything else on mass amount of Mad Dogs at the ORD terminal wouldn't seem right.
