I last posted a few months ago requesting opinions on CX and VS before my big Asia trip and got some divided reactions from posters around here. I'm back home now and while I don't want to post a trip report I would like to say my return trip with VS from SYD-HKG was nothing short of a brilliant experience equal-to or surpassing the best I've had from CX.

VS is in my opinion a 5-star airline and I will be using them from now on for my UK flights. Flight attendant service was warm and attentive and the smiles were genuine - flight crew on the return trip was a mixture of British and Hong Kong lasses and every one of them looked like they could've been models, they were all good looking tall and slim 20-something dolls. This is apart from the fact that they were very professional with safety and passenger discipline as well. I rode on some domestic airlines inside China and there is a very obvious difference between the ditzy pretty girls who don't care about safety or service and the VS professionals. There was plenty of water and juice served throughout the flight between meals. The toiletries pack even comes with a pen which is a nice touch!

The AVOD on VS puts CXs old system to shame, the big screen with the huge selection of on-demand movies (some good foreign films as well) was just a godsend as I can't sleep on long-haul flights. Absolutely love the new A340-600s as well, definitely my favourite airliner and noticeably quieter than Boeings in the cabin, interiors especially the oversized economy toilets were top-notch!

The 1.5 meal service instead of the full 2 meals u get on CX or QF on the 9 hour leg was the only small flaw with the second refreshment being a bit stingy hence the 0.5 meal tag. My overall experience and first impressions of VS are nothing short of fantastic and I will recommend them as a viable choice to all my friends who plan to fly from SYD to HKG or LHR in the future! They have connections to other australian destinations via Virgin Blue.
