HI,
Just a quick question - I'm thinking of flying Business Class to the US(Las Vegas probably) and will probably end up using KLM. Can anyone give me an idea of what the Business Lounge is like in Amsterdam?
I presume in the US you just use a codeshare airline lounge?

Thanks.

Alan.

Its average...

it has just been renewed, and i think you will enjoy it there, lots of alcoholic drinks, internet ports, lots of TV's and quite a lot of snacks!

If you really want to eat something you don't have much choice, its mostly just sandwiches

For the international return you are probably correct, depending on the gateway city.

For the USA domestic portion (if any) of your flight, you will most likely have no lounge access.

Cheers

On KL try to book (6 weeks, IIRC) in advance and get a World Business Class Fare which will save you quite some GBP. But this will get you only into LAX or SFO (= destinations served nonstop from AMS). That way I have been paying about 1900 € Germany to IAD with a return from IND via MSP.
Looks like one only has to book the flight to the U.S. into a gateway served with KL-metal in order to get WBC-fare; for the return you can fly form and route via pretty anything what is offered by NW/KL.

I had a too short connection time (90 min) at AMS last week than I could pay a visit to a lounge; as there is a second security check right before entering the pax hold area for the flight to the U.S:, KL starts "boarding" about 90 min before scheduled take off. And there is NO seperate line for Business Class pax !!! Hesitating to wait in 50+ meters of queue I strolled around and was among the last to be security checked and to board the a/c about 10 min before scheduled departure (doors were closed on-time with pushback immediately after).

If you want to fly into LAS, LH might be an option. Although they will route you via ORD/LAX/SFO or DEN, they offer a discounted fare booking 8 weeks in advance. My favorite connection would be via DEN, but via LAX you would earn more miles.

Another option would be Maxjet out of STN nonstop to LAS.

LAS is also served by VS as well as DE (but their product is more like "Premium Economy") from FRA.

(my results from recent research, booking and travelling)

The U.S. domestic leg of a KL Business Class ticket will be in NW First Class, thus entiteling you to access the lounge used by NW, if I am not in serious error here. Will check this in 9 days at IND.

As long as it's on the same day of the flight in international business/first class, you can use the lounge. But if you're just flying domestic only that day, no lounge that day. With very few exceptions (DL/AA/UA select transcontinental flights), a domestic F ticket by itself will not give you lounge access - the lounges are already crowded enough with paying members; I'd hate to see them invite domestic F passengers in as well.

I do not believe that LAS has any lounges, btw.

You will note that most of the lounges in the US are a step or two below the Euro and Asian lounges.
