Which Flight To Choose, SJC-BOS?

My last effort to find an interesting cross-country itinerary (for my flight back home from college at the end of the month) was thwarted, as the price jumped up by $50 before I could get around to booking it. So I'm getting an early start on this next trip, a one-way from SJC to BOS to return to college in September. Here's the options I'm looking at, all about the same price, and all in economy class.

Option #1:
Delta Air Lines
SJC-SLC on an MD-90
SLC-ATL on a 767-400
ATL-BOS on a 737-800
This itinerary would hit a number of firsts or seconds: second time flying on Delta, first time on an MD-90 (though I have flown on MD80s before), first time on a 767-400 (third on 767s overall), second time on a 737-800 (though I have flown on 737s in general more times than I can count), first time flying through SLC, and second time flying through ATL. (Incidentally, there are two possibilities with this routing and equipment, but I'm guessing that a 29 minute connection through SLC would be dicey.)

Option #2:
Delta Air Lines
SJC-LAX on an ERJ (codeshare with AE)
LAX-ATL on a 777-200
ATL-BOS on a 737-800
This one wouldn't give me the flights on the MD-90 or 767-400, nor the connection in SLC, but I've only flown on a 777 once before (a long time ago, on UA), so that would be cool.

Option #3:
Never mind. UA just raised the price by $80 on that itinerary.  Angry

So which should I pick?

Is the UA non-stop to SFO totally out of the question? I did BOS-SFO this past summer and had a great time. You can search for my trip reports if you want to read that.

If it were me, I'd take option 1 because you can't be certain how long the MD-90s are going to be left in the fleet.

Why would I fly on one plane through 2 airports when I can fly on 3 planes through 4? Big grin

No question, I would choose option 3.

I'd go with option 1, if only because it is all mainline and you don't have to do the awkward terminal change at LAX. LAX isn't the best when it comes to changing terminals.

Although if I were in your shoes, I'd take the jetBlue non-stop red-eye flight since my current "phase" of travelling is appreciating non-stops, but obviously you are looking for some adventure/connections/more flights per trip, so in that case I'd pick option 1.

In the past I have chosen itineraries like PHX-ATL-MSP for an extra $5 over PHX-MSP non-stop. That was in my "most miles for the lowest price" phase.
