For a business trip I will have the option to fly either on LH- or TP-metal via FRA or MUC to LIS (the trip will be originating in HAJ and will be on a LH-ticket).
Flights rather likely will be in Economy Class, but please also keep opinions coming for the Business Class product of both carriers on this route.

As some timings are very similar, is there a reason why I should select one carrier's flight over the other ?
Costs are not a deciding factor here.

I am rather familiar with LH's European product for flights up to 90 Minutes (Eco & Business), but is there any difference for these 3-hour flights ?
But I have never sampled TP yet ...

Hi, I just have a little experience with TP... I flew BRU-LIS-BRU two years ago and there was nothing spectacular on these flights but as you told in your post, there's an opportunity to experience something different  Wink

For a shorter flight it doesn't matter that much and it might be fine to try out TAP - but I would say that LH's service is somewhat better than TAP's. So if I were you, I'd take LH - but if you want to try TAP then go ahead.

Both are in Star Alliance so either way, you can't go wrong for getting miles on either airline.

Hi!

I flew LH + TP in November 2006 from LIS to SXB and back. From LIS to SXB I flew via MUC with LH A320 ( LIS/MUC ) and MUC/SXB ( CRJ100 ), the service was nice and efficient, they provided an hot meal with wine ( I got two glasses...) from LIS to MUC and then a chocolat bar from MUC to SXB ( around 45 minutes flight ). From SXB to LIS I took LH bus from SXB to FRA and from FRA to LIS I flew TP A319. TP service normally is consisted of an hot sandwish with a desert and complementary drinks. Regarding the equipment I think if you fly with LH you have better chances to get the A321 or the A300-600...with TP you'll probably fly the A319/320/321 family. Regarding the condition of the planes I was impressed in my flight LIS/MUC with LH, the plane I flew was already 16 years old but it look in excelent condition, very clean. LH flights don't have to small screens with entretainment, but yu find out that in TP ones.
I wish you a nice trip to Portugal.
Regards

Thanks everybody for your valuable input.
It looks like that there is nothing considerably wrong with TP's european product; so, once I have received the timings of that internal convention to attend, I might try TP in one direction and LH in the other (or even LX via ZRH, but between HAJ and ZRH it is an cramped AVRO), should timings allow.

hey HT,

just been on a SWISS Avro... was happy for a window seat, but jesus, that was tight... The fuselage of the aircraft made me sit sideways to the middle seat... I couldt lean to the window... it was so close to me... and looking out of the window? well, I am really tall and my head was far above the window... it was very uncomfortable... Thank god I only flew ZRH-FRA...
Have a good flight

The same is true for me for almost all Regional a/c - that's also the reason why I choose an aisle seat on most shorthaul flights unless I am sure that I get a A320's or B737-series a/c.

So try TAP then. Always good to add one to your collection of flown carriers. Also TAP will kindly deliver your luggage to your hotel in 2 or 3 days, so you won't have to injure yourself picking it off the belt.  Wink

I will return after only 2 days ...

While I intended tofly via MUC, our in-plant travel agent this afternoon found a very good deal on LX:
LX AVRO to ZRH and then continuation to LIS on TP-metal.
Departing on a Monday in June with return 2 days later, they found a fare (with some restrictions) of only 294 EUR, while LH's fare was about 1800 EUR.

And she promised me that seat 7B on LX's AVRO is a aisle seat.

I didn't make my last post clear enough: It is BOOKED on LX/TP via ZRH in both directions.
Timings were okay and the price is just outstanding (for business travel).
From a Lufthansa Share-holder point-of-view, LX is piping off business pax while generating only minimal revenue when comparing 294 EUR (LX) against 1800 EUR (LH).

Will do; all is set for the ZRH-meeting.
