Hi Guys!

Next summer in July I have to go to Sydney for 5 weeks. My plan is to make a stopover in SIN or HKG for some days, or both.

I was thinking on the folowing routing.

1.FRA-SIN 2nd July 2008
2.SIN-SYD 5th July 2008

3.SYD-HKG 7th August 2008
4.HKG-FRA 10th August 2008

It would be also now problem for me if I had to go through LHR from DUS. I checked already oneworld and STAR Alliance.

What about flying the first 3 flights mentioned above with QF and the fourth one with CX?

Does Star Alliance have any non-stop flights on the SYD-HKG leg? Codeshare with VS?

What could you suggest me?

How are the Visa regulations for SIN and HKG?

Thanx for your help.

Best Regards. Tom

That's easy: No visa required for German citizens for Singapore and Hong Kong (for up to 14 days, IIRC), but for Australia.
Having checked your profile, I am not sure about sour naionality, so you best should check the respective regulations.

QF meanwhile also flies between LHR and HKG, in case this might be a cheaper option than combining QF and CX.

According to www.staralliance.com tha answer is NO to both questions.

At least in 2007 there is a good connection from DUS via LHR on QF.

Flying on *A you would have to fly SYD-SIN-HKG (or similar) ...

I am german, I just live and study in Hungary, so I guess it wont be a problem.

Why would it be more expensive combining QF and CX? Aren't they both on Oneworld?

Does anybody have another proposal for me routing?

Best regards. Tom

You might be able to find a better fare when staying with a single airline, but this is not always the case ...

  • Arabian carriers will make it difficult to include a stop in HKG, unless you get a routing via BKK from SYD. EK and GF should fly BKK-HKG, with EK optionally returning nonstop to DXB from HKG.
  • BTW, you are aware of the fact that August will be rain (monsoon) season in HKG with the possibility of typhoons ? I prefer to fly to HKG in winter ...
  • Have you considered to make this a Round the World (RTW)-trip ?
If not yet done, download and install the RTW-Calculator from www.staralliance.com to get an impression of the possibilities.
In case you go for a RTW, go westbound ! It is considerably less stressful on the body.

    EDIT: I just for a link fro 1W-RTW: http://www.oneworld.com/ow/timetables
  • Go to Japan in August instead of HKG ?

Well you could book your flights with VS as they codeshare with SQ. So a possibe routing could be like this
LHR-SIN-SYD-HKG-LHR with SQ and VS

Thx a lot. did not know they codeshare with SIN. Can someone tell me round about how much I have to spend if I book it as soon as possible?

I guess for this I should go to a airline office, or travel agency? Internet is too difficult I guess.

Best Regards. Tom

Travel agent would be an option, but any good online booking engine will do also.
To get an impression go to Expedia.de --> Flüge --> Linienflüge --> Mehrere Flughäfen.
Some other booking engines are around.
Problem might be to book now for more than 12 months in advance ...
