I am flying LTU MIA-MUC then LH to FRA next Thursday.
What should I expect of LTU to be like? I have never flown long haul with them before. My last flight with LTU was MUC - ADB on a 757 in the mid 1990's. I am sure a lot has changed since then.
Is there a chance I will get their new A330-200?
What is the IFE and service like on board?
I'd appreciate it if anyone can answer these questions.
I would assume you will be flying on the A332, maybe the A333, but I couldn't tell you if it's the new livery bird or not. Also, avoid rows 11 and 18 on the A332, these do not have a window.
IFE is what ever you bring with or what they show on the screens. Service has not been enjoyable in my experiences, employees seem to have a serious attitude problem. The food is fine, but the coffee is usually served luke warm.

It's deffinetly going to be the 332. I heard the new ones have PTV's. I hope I won't be bored the entire flight. What you've just said was helpful and thanks for the tip about the windows.

As with F/As, it seems to be a hit or miss. Most I encountered were very cheerful and attentive, though on my last flight with them (MAD-DUS) one F/A definately had attitude problems, she even managed to pick on her co-worker in front of the passengers.... otherwise I was always very satisfied with them, but did not have to spend more than 3 hours in one of their A/C yet.

Well i went on the new A330-200 (D-ALPI) DUS-BKK on may 6.
In economy they don´t have PTV´s - just a few screens attached to the roof...
Food quality is rather low and quantity very limited. Don´t forget to ORDER CLEARLY any additional drinks if needed since crews tend to prefer staying hidden from their customers as much as possible instead of regularly performing "drink rounds"
(not to mention the worst crew attitude i´ve experienced so far in my "passenger career" - around 300 flights so far...)
To give a comparison on service: Flew back HKG-LGW on OASIS Hongkong for almost half the price but got triple service... (regular drink service plus sufficient hot dinner and hot breakfast with a choice of 2 different meals each time)
And the OASIS crew was always availlable for sevice - at LTU 6 out of 7 F/A´s in economy went sleeping in the aft galley after the "food/drinks round (What happens in case of an emergency??? How long does it take for them to be "on position" to perform their duties - i suppose too long to take the right action at the right place in good time ! ! ! )
So, don´t expect premium service nor friendly crews just be happy if it turns out better...

That sounds like LTU alright.
I also hope that you're not carrying a baby stroller with you that has a "delivery at aircraft" label on it, if you do, make sure you don't wait at the aircraft for it, otherwise you'll get an earful from the crew.
Another tip: Don't argue with the check-in staff about your destination. If they tell you that LTU doesn't fly to where ever it is you're going, even if it's on your LTU ticket, don't try to correct them, they don't like that.

Happened to me in 2004. The check-in agent told me that LTU did not fly to YVR (despite the fact that I had just given her my LT ticket to YVR), we argued for a good couple of minutes before a supervisor came along and corrected her. No apology, not even a "Have a good flight".

Btw. it was not just sleeping somewhere in a corner but easily visible by any passenger passing by.
They were lying "stretched out" covered with blankets etc.
Unfortunately i did not take a photo of that (stupid am i ...) Nobody would have recognized since the only crewmember awake was sitting (i´d rather call it almost lying down similar to her coworkers in the back and reading a book) at an emergency exit in the front of the eco cabin !

Generalize that to all agents don't seems to be fair.
The problem is that, according to the general consensus, that LT staff have attitude problems, so I'd say the generalisation isn't that unfair.
I can't say much about LT, since my last experience was 10 years ago on one of their very cramped MD-11s (29-30" pitch in a 3-4-3 configured, all-economy sardine can is already a minus point for me), but I don't remember the F/As being very active back then. I mostly saw them during the meal rounds, but they hardly did any drink rounds on any stage of the flight.
Given the constant problem of LT not knowing for sure if it wants to be a leisure carrier or a scheduled carrier with a premium offer, I would have dished out more money and take a ticket with another carrier, like LH nonstop to FRA (and with a 747 ).

I'm generalizing that to most LTU staff because I've had to deal with them several times on several different occasions. Everyone makes a mistake or has a bad day, but when that kind of attitude seems to be the norm, it helps me make my choice when choosing an airline.
