How much did you pay the most for your trip to the airport, from the city? This might include bus, subway, boat, shuttle bus/van, taxi.
Obviously this thread is dedicated to average persons, so I'm not talking here about helicopters, limousines etc.
And also don't mention the cost of the whole trip from your small and remote countryside village, in the middle of nowhere, all the way to the airport. So only the cost from the city to the airport (ex: Manhattan to JFK, central London to LHR).
I think this subject hasn't been discussed here before and it's quite important for many passengers. Sometimes, if you get a bargain and pay barely anything for a flight, you still have to pay for the trip to the airport, more than what you paid for the flight itself.
Personally, I paid $ 40 on a shuttle van from Hollywood to LGB, to catch my jetBlue flight to JFK. I tipped the driver 10 more bucks, so a total of $ 50. I shared the shuttle van with one more person and he paid the same as I did.

Returning from Shannon to LGW on Boxing Day last year, I jumped at the chance to get a bargain fare of GBP 9.99 on FR rather than pay GBP 149.99 for a flight the next day. I thought that there might be a skeleton rail or coach service to home on the Sussex Coast but there was no public transport so I ended up taking a cab. The fare? It was a licensed cab and no driver would do the journey on Boxing Day evening for less than GBP 150 (the normal fare would be about GBP 35).
The driver also expected a tip!

Never made the mistake but believe a taxi from/to NRT to/from Tokyo Ginza can easily cost you a few hundred US$. Always took public transport while living in Tokyo. Anybody ever make the mistake of taking a taxi and is willing to tell the charges ???

I would agree that it costs a lot to take a cab in Japan. During my trip to Tokyo in Dec 04, I paid a little lesser to get from my hotel near JR Tokyo Station to JR Ueno Station in order to catch the Skyliner service to Narita Airport. Needless to say, the train was packed as the locals knew it was the affordable way to get there.
Just to share. Last year, I paid NZ$40 + just to get from Auckland Airport to my hotel in Greenlane area, which was not even in the city centre. I thought that was expensive as it was only a 10 - 15 min ride away.
I have also paid 30 pounds to get from Kingscross Area to London Heathrow airport many years ago. But I felt this was the norm in the UK.
Anyway, I think the cost of transportation from airports to city centres much depends on the distance as well as the cost of living, which includes transportation, in the city/ country as well as how comfortable/ fast the mode of transportation is.

That's cheap. A taxi from LHR to Central London today would cost circa GBP 50, and that is provided you take a Hackney Cab and agree a fixed fare with the driver before you start the journey.

At least then you travel in style! Considering the cab is already $50 and if you want to get through rush hour i think this price is fairly reasonable.

Does paying £48 to park your car at EMA for 5 days count ?? What a rip off...
Most expensive trip was probably train to LGW from home and return (Midlands) Can't exactly remember the amount but it wasn't cheap....Was several years ago, but I remember thinking that's the last time I fly from the South of England!!

I paid £27 on Boxing Day 2005 to get from EDI across town to Leith (east side of the city, the airport is on the west). I have paid £23 going the other way on a normal weekday in the past so I don't think that this rate was a special rate due to the public holiday. There was a bus service running but the queue was about an hour long (it made the security lines at LHR look small) and I felt that there had to be a better way than that to spend boxing day. To be fair, the cab drive wasn't much shorter than my flight (which was from BHX).

From the replies, the conclusion is that UK is quite an expensive country (as we already knew), and also Japan…
What about those on Switzerland, Norway, Denmark...?

The most expensive that I have paid is about 1100 sek. Its is about 150$. It was from ARN to my home in Pershagen.
When flying into Geneva take the taxi on the French side. It may be a considerable difference with the Swiss side.
When going from GVA into the French Alps last winter we missed the bus and one of the kids was ill (talk about the trip from hell )so asked for a taxi. It's a 1 hour drive, Swiss taxi 230 euros, French taxi 180!

I'd say the most expensive trip I took to the airport was when I was in DFW, took a wrong turn, got stuck having to drive through the highway cutting down the middle of the airport to get back on track. That was a $2 mistake I made sure I didn't do again. If I wasn't already late for school, I should've stopped for an hour and watched planes and got my $2 worth. Oh well.

Taxi (cab) ride between CDG T-1 and Suresnes (South-western part [actually "suburb"] of Paris regular costs me 50 EUR (67 USD) incl. tip (40-75 minutes depending on traffic).
As these are business trips I will get the expense refunded.
Alternative would be to use public transport with minimum 2 transfers and a longer walk (with luggage) or even more transfers with dragging luggage onboard the bus.
Recently my mum had to go to our homebase at HAJ which is a 30 minute ride for 32km/20mi from home (own car was no option).
All (ordinary) taxi companies contacted intended to charge 45 EUR; one service (which best can be described as a pre-arranged limo-service using a standard car) charged only 30 EUR. Guess who was given the business ...

I paid £90.00 for a taxi from Liverpool Street Station to Stansted Airport at 4 AM once. The trains were all delayed so we hoped a taxi would get us there in time. Even though the taxi made several traffic violations on our behalf, we still missed the flight and had to wait 7 hours for the next one to our destination.

Including tip, $25. Cab from LAS to my hotel mid-Strip. Got tunneled, which is a practice the local cabbies are discouraged from doing. As a result of this, when I go to Vegas, I take a shuttle bus or I will split the cost of a limo/sedan with someone.

That's why I'm glad there are so many off-airport parking lots @ ATL. My last trip, I parked at one for four days and the total was $26 ($6.50 a day rate booked online). Had I parked @ ATL, that would have cost me close to $40.

Happened to me twice with FR... Some years ago, going from STN to downtown London by train was more expensive than the flight itself (don't remember the price) and last year, we missed the 5€ bus from Venice to TSF and had no choice but to take a taxi, for 80€ !!!

Now I remember that it happened to me too... Me and 3 friends missed the bus to BGY from central Milano, so we had to take a taxi for 70€... But at least we split the cost, so we paid only 17.5€ each.
