I haven't flown Iberia, and I don't imagine doing so in the near furture, one thing is for certain however, they don't have PTVs in economy class, only in the new business plus cabin can a AVOD system be found, on their Airbus A340-600s.

With Regards,

The food made me sick when I arrived in Madrid. Thank god I had a couple hour lay over so I could use the fatalities.
No IFE's. I know on the A346 had LCD monitors, but I am pretty sure the A343 only has CRT.

PS,

Hi. Iberia's service in Economy is not the best (BA, AF, etc.), but for sure you'll enjoy and it's similar to other European or American airlines (AA, TAP, Alitalia, Brussels Airlines, LH, Aer Lingus, etc...). The A340-300 has 250 seats in a two-class configuration which in Economy follows the 2 - 4 - 2 outline. The seats are nice but depending on how tall and young are you, you may find them too tight (32'' or 81 cm). However, to me they were OK for a "short" 8 hours flight. The seats recline (6''), but not very much (I mean, they are not flat beds, of course!). Regarding the aircraft, the A340-300 are much worse than the 340-600: they are darker (it's amazing when you enter a 340-600 cabin and you see all this white light!... instead, the A340-300 have a yellowish lighting) and older, and don't have the tail camera showing what is happening outside, which is funny!

What can you expect?

- A pillow and a blanket and a kind of bootees/socks.
- Free newspaper.
- A free copy of their "Ronda Iberia" Magazine.
- Two meals: dinner served one hour before departure (salad + a second dish that you can choose between two options that usually are meat/chicken with rice or vegetables / pasta / or sometimes fish + dessert + the beverage you want, including beer and wine) and a breakfast served two hours prior to the arrival (coffee/tea, a juice, some fruits, and pastry, normally a croissant and a muffin, a piece of apple pie, or something like similar).
- A free bar onboard with beverages, peanuts, or even small sandwiches (you have to go to the galley and ask for what you want).
- A buy-on-board duty free shop (with perfumes, watches, etc.).
- Free headsets.
- Some music channels.
- Screens over the seats that show data about the flight (elapsed time, etc. etc.) and also adverts and one or two films. Unfortunately, no PTVs nor flat screens as in the A340-600.
- There is also a public telephone next to the galley (but don't use it: Singapore Telecom, that provides the service, charges you I-don't-know-even-how-many-dollars-for-a-one-minute-call-it's-crazy!)

The cabin crews are senior: professional but shy.
The pilots are very good professionals.
Maintenance is very prestigious in Europe.
Flights from BOS have a good on-time ratio.
Oneworld FF-programs get miles in any IB flight.

The new T4 is amazing. If you are used to deal with large airports, you will not have any problem. It's well signalized.

In general, IB is a pleasant airline. You'll normally read very bad reviews, but from my point of view they are unfair. Of course, if you expect an Emirates or a British Airways service, you will be desappointed (in Economy), but I as said their product is average with respect to other European Airlines.

Check other reviews in this website and you'll get more information. Recently if wrote on this topic, so use the search tool and you'll find it.

Enjoy you flight and post a review once you come back.

I did Rio - Madrid on IB A343 (New Cabin) in January. Cabin was very nice and as good as most new J products. AVOD screens were huge and worked well.

Service! Appalling. Everything bad I heard is true and worse. One simple explanation, same as in the US, jobs are allocated on seniority NOT merit. In J you get the older, most bullet-proof comrads of the IB collective! You are a but a tolerated hitchhicker on THEIR flight. Amongst the worst customer attitude, along with AA, I've seen anywhere.

When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.

flat screens as in the A340-600.

I was almost positive that the screens in the cabin of the A346 were flat screens.

Usually as bad as AZ & AA's food and service.

With the options available between BOS-MAD, I doubt it.

Maybe Aer Lingus, but as I said I have my doubts about it. This is an IB's thread about.
