Well my neighbor just had to cut her European holiday three weeks short becuase she "slept" airside in MAD and someone dug into her pillow/luggage and took her blackberry phone, over 200 Euro and her iPod. The thief also took her friends' money and cameras. They went to talk to security the following morning and they did absolutely nothing to help since their passports weren't stolen and therefore the rest of their belongings were not important. I don't label MAD as unsafe but I'm just telling you that if you do sleep in MAD then hold on to your things dearly. Two weeks ago I slept five hours in LHR and did just fine. T3's cold hard floors were actually very comfy after hours of no sleep.

Amazing that you do not want to go downtown Madrid does not go to sleep and you will be able to get a dinner even when you get to the hotel.Enjoy the town and the nightlife which finishes about 0600!!!
