Does anybody have any idea if UA is planning any major expansions into India? In the past couple of years AA, DL &CO have launched non stops. NWA almost launched a one stop to Bangalore but shelved it.

UAL should try to find right aircraft to launch India flights from San Francisco, especially to Bangalore.

..the would have to either get some B787's or -200LR's...or they can route it via NRT with the current B777's they have...but I don't see that happening anytime soon..

Back to the main topic, UAL I think (including express) runs about 630 daily flights out of ORD while AA (including Eagle) has about 500 daily flights, so unless UA would cut back or AA would add, UAL will probably remain #1. They (UA) also have the advantage of having express flights on the CR7's and E70's that have first class cabins, something that AAEagle does not have. However, IIRC, I think AA is fairly close behind in terms of market share, it seems like they are fairly even in the market, UA just has a slight edge.

From the looks of it when I fly into ORD, UA has significantly more market share that AA does. But that might be because I always fly UA into ORD.
Still, it seems like I never see as many AA planes as UA planes at any time I've flown through ORD.

FWIW, on a previous thread, (where actual stastics were used) AA and UAL were almost tied for share of CHI O&D traffic, while UAL had significantly more connecting pax.

Keep in mind that ORD is numero uno for UA, while the same status applies to DFW in AA's world. As DEN is a secondary hub for UA, so it is for ORD and AA. If AA sees and opportunity to gain on or surpass UA at ORD in a way that makes sen$e, they would probably not hesitate to do so, although ORD will likely remain a secondary priority to AA relative to the paramount importance of DFW in AA's big picture strategy.

I think UA has always had more more flights at ORD. UA carries more international traffic at ORD.

This is true but I would think mostly for total number of flights. DFW definately has more flight that ORD for AA, but ORD has many more international destinations for AA. As for UA, I think its both. ORD has the most international destinations and most number of flights for UA. ORD is definately the most important hub for UA and it seems that UA has the most amount of traffic at ORD (international and domestic). The big difference is that AA favors ORD for new international routes where as UA sometimes will favor IAD for new service over ORD.

UA is larger, after all the airline is based in Chicago. But AA still has a massive hub at ORD and routes that UA does not. For instance, ORD-TUS, which I take at least twice a year.

Both airlines serve destinations that the others dont.
AA also serves ELP, PSP, BTR, BRU, FCO, DUB, SNN, HSV, RNO, JAN, CHA, JFK, and MAN (to name a few) from ORD which UA doesnt.
But UA serves SMF, OAK, YYC, YVR, YWG, HKG, PEK, AMS, MUC, GEG, BOI, BIL, ANC, GRU, and FAR (to name a few) from ORD which AA doesnt.
I think UA serves more destinations from ORD, but im not 100%.

From the BTS:
UA: 45% share (including SkyWest and Mesa)
AA: 39% share (including American Eagle)
As for me, I'd personally pick AA at ORD, but UA's HQ are there, so it's not surprising they have more flights (then again, ATA's HQ are at IND, and yet IND is not an ATA destination. So it isn't a foolproof argument, but it works in this case).

I know, I've walked through their terminals many times. Both have always had a strong presence at ORD. UA has more domestic routing with the "express" flights included. AA has more mainline service on average. Additonal UA routes, such as BIL, bump the numbers up during the summer, but are often seasonal. AA's tend to be year round.

Is there any chance the 'round the world flight could make its way back, do you know (UA 1 and UA 2)?

The last 3 quotes tell me that a/c on the gates for UA at ORD tend to sit longer - if AA has only 130 fewer flights, but UA has more pax, that tells me that AA is exercising greater gate utilization. UA, IIRC, has a much higher number of gates (31 on C, 22 on B, 14 on F - with extra parking spots at a few of these gates) compared to what AA has - and I need help on the exact number, but I know that G has all Eagle flights and H and J (where the concourse looks like a Y from above) is all mainline. I just remember their mainline concourse looked about as big as B concourse did for UA.
Quoting TrijetsRMissed (Reply 12): But AA still has a massive hub at ORD and routes that UA does not.
When I worked at O'Hare for 2 different express carriers, it didn't make sense (to me, at least) why UA wouldn't do the ORD-HNL nonstop (that I heard they used to do) while AA had at least 1 flight on that route.
Shortly after I left ORD, UA picked up that route. Took 'em long enough!
