Which Airport Is The Most International?

There was a topic on this earlier, but it was deleted. I wonder why.

The purpose of this thread is the same as the other one. The question is "what airport is the most international?"

Anyway, I had a photo compilation of the airlines that go into JFK. Enjoy!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

JFK...MIA...LAX. Those three are at the top and there's different ways we can measure them (pax, flights, variety, etc.).

Surely LHR! It is the busiest international airport in the world, and it only has 3 domestic airlines there! JFK and ORD would have loads more.

YVR may not have the most International in terms of World airports but I think they might take top spot out of Canadian Airport.

I think he means the total amount of different international airlines serving one airport, and yes, LHR would without a doubt take that spot. And when you include MAN and LGW into the equation, that's a healthy portion of international flying  Smile

As for YVR taking Canada's top spot... not sure... Montreal is a very diverse crowd  Big grin

In the U.S., my vote definitely goes to JFK. LAX and MIA are a toss up with LAX having lots of Asian carriers and MIA with its Latin service.

No american airport can beat european ones in terms of international flights because of the shorthaul european destinations, which are considered international. Most of shorthaul flights from the US are domestic.

If we're looking at airlines over the years, here are some stats from the database:
# airlines @ LHR: 627
# airlines @ JFK: 535
# airlines @ LAX 550
# airlines @ MIA: 905
# airlines @ AMS: 924

These aren't 100% accurate, there are some dodgy entries, and airlines like Untitled (British Airways), and privately owned aircraft are all counted.

Minus BA, VS and BMI, there are over 90 international airlines serving LHR, with new carriers such as China Eastern, East African Airways and Etihad joining the LHR list this year.
