You sound as if it is trans-Atlantic, but it is only the Northsea that separates us
VLM has higher frequencies, i.e. more flights to choose from and more flexibility for you.

VLM's aircraft are in a much better condition than KLMs.
KLM's are pretty poor condtion (Scratch obscure windows, ripped seats and stained seat tables).
VLM's are very clean and much better kept by comparision.
F50's for both airlines.. it's a bit like flying on a ducks back.
The food is pretty much the same... small bun with a slab of meat and a wipe of butter.
AIrmiles KLM wins.. around 1500 miles for a return (and is Sky Team),
VLM offers about 150 and you need around 10000 for a freebie !
VLM offers better frequency (and tends to be better at being on time).
however in my particular case.. neither has a landing in AMS before 9am...meaning a 6am from LHR or a night stay over.
As for the flight... it's a 2 minute taxi.. 20 minutes over land, 20 minutes over water, 10 minutes over land (and if your lucky a 5 minute taxi to the gate...if your unlucky.. it's a 15 minute 4 mile drive to AMS).
Check out the "rare" whiskys at the duty free shop at LCY.. and you can leave it there and pick it up on your way back too.
Also look out for the "door man" at LCY top hat and tails.. opens car doors for passengers.. never seen that at any other airport.
I do the LCY-AMS nearly every week.
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

I have flown KL LHR-AMS-LHR, AMS-CAI-AMS, etc. They were OK but nothing special.
I haven't yet flown VG, but I will be flying them JER-LCY in November. Should be good. And I haven't yet flown on the F50, and I'm looking forward to that.

I flew KLM LCY-AMS-LHR. The LCY-AMS fights were nothing special. Very delayed and poor ground staff who had no idea what was going in. Inflight food was lacking.
Good with VLM, it's cheaper and a probably IMO a better experience.
