a friend of mine is flying CX (Y) from LHR to HKG in January and it seems she has three options: 744, 346 or 343. She should decide now which one to choose. Do all these have the new seats in Y already? Any opinions generally?

Well, I really do prefer Boeing! If it ain't Boeing, I am not going!  Wink

So, 744 would be my choice! But if all have the new Y class seats: I don't know! Book J or F class, then you don't have to worry about legroom or so  Wink

I recently flew on the 744 just because I haven't flown in one for ages. Plenty of room in Y (on old interior). Watch for the IFE boxes - I sat in the centre row left aisle and the bloody thing is right where your feet go. Better is either middle seat.

Steer clear of the new Y interior on 74A. Good for daytime, no good for sleeping since the headrest in recline mode merely slides down inside the shell rather than back. This makes the angle between backrest and headrest more acute. A bit like sleeping with your head slumped forward - painful (for me).

However, the AVOD is great.

Quieter choice? Probably either Airbus. Nostaglia? 744.

At this stage, out of the a/c operating HKG-LHR vv, only SOME of the 744s are fitted with the new product. if I'm not mistaken, CX252 is always a retrofitted a/c.

But as mentioned above, the new seats are not necessarily a blessing. Check out this thread for some extra information...
