What is ATA's Hawaii service like? I know they operate 738, 752, and 753 to Hawaii, but what type of service is offered onboard, in terms of food, IFE, etc. What is the comfort like and how about their ontime reliability?

I haven't flown TZ since I worked for them a few years ago, and never went to Hawaii. That being said, I know that the 738s have leather seats that are comfy (I'm 6'2"/183cm), several audio channels, and TVs that hang down from the ceiling. Don't think I was ever on the 752s or 753s. They didn't let non-revvers request special meals, which I require, so I just didn't eat on the flights and therefore can't comment on the food.

I was on such a flight in May, between HNL and PHX. The plane was a 757. The flight was on time, check-in process really smooth and efficient. The plane was, you know, average for a domestic one. Overhead monitors, not really cramped seats configuration. I was next bumped on an exit row (still don’t know why), so it was a nice ride.
The –old- flight attendant was just amazing. Very, very professional and dedicated. A pity that she has nothing to give you for free, except water (and maybe a soft drink, not sure about that). It was a red eyes flight, so it was not a big deal anyhow.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Flying in (LAX-HNL) with Delta, the flight attendant was rude and brutal. Literally. That is a big contrast to say the least!

You a get what you pay for: Just don’t expect too much regarding the product, but it is consistent. The big plus was such a nice crew. Far above the average. All I can tell is ATA deserves a big up.

I flew TZ OAK-ITO and back in March of this year (as part of the WN codeshare, the first leg was WN MDW-OAK). It was pretty bare-bones, but it gets you there.

Both flights were on 738s, and the seats were quite comfy, even for a 6' 5" frame like me. Snacks weren't free (it was buy-on-board), but soft drinks were free. A movie was shown both ways (you can use your own headphones if you like), and both flights were on-time. Overall, it was a good flight... but OAK left a lot to be desired for stretching out.

I currently at the TZ KOA station.

First, what WCS says about the crews is true. We have some amazing people! I had the pleasure of transferring from HP/US and let me tell you, the difference is like night and day! To be honest, I have yet to run into a grumpy FA or even CAPT. They constantly let us board early and even help us clean the aircraft. You would never see this at HP/US.

As far as the service...

We are a LCC therefore you shouldn't expect much. Water and soft drinks are free and come down the aisle often. Snack boxes are available for purchase and start at $5.95. If you want a pillow and blanket it is $9.95. However, you get to keep them after the flight (the package comes with a neck pillow, blanket and handy carrying pouch - they're actually pretty cool.)

As far as aircraft, the 738 and 753's are in excellent shape. All have leather seating and the pitch is the industry standard. The 752's are a little worn but are still very clean. IFE consists of numerous audio channels and a movie (shown from drop down LCD screens in the 738's) Regular headphones can be purchased for $5 and "noise canceling" for $9. You will even get a movie on red eye flights.

The 738's that come into KOA are equipped with a business class. Don't buy these when you purchase your ticket online but rather wait until you arrive at the airport to upgrade. Generally, A class will run you $600+ online or you can wait and do the upgrade at the airport for $150 (check in early!) J class will get you a larger seat, pillow and blanket, headphones, two drinks and a snack box. That's all.

Overall, TZ has a great product for what you pay. You can generally find a ticket from OAK for about $300. Not a bad deal.

Hope this helps.

I hear you on that one man, I was there a couple of months ago, and I thought my airport was nasty...no offense to the people of OAK but the airport was depresssing at best.
