So I have been reading on this forum and other sources about how bad the customer service and baggage handeling were on AZ, especially with all the uncertainty that was going on with their sale. Now I am seeing the lists coming out with the worst airports and FCO is always near the bottom. In some of the articles, there were horror stories about 2.5 hours in line for security to get to the US bound flights.
I picked AZ just because they were the only airline I could get on from IAH to CAI in business class using CO FF miles. Now I am worried!
Any lessons learned or experiences/advice out there that anyone would like to share?
I have a 2 hr layover on the way there, and am actually spending the night on the way back. Is arriving at the airport 2hrs before my flight good enough (10am on a Friday) or should I believe in these stories I have heard and get there even earlier?

I was just there this summer. I can't say much about AZ because I only flew them once, FCO-CTA and back, and that was a 1 hour flight in an MD-82 (I flew IB BOS-MAD-FCO). It depends on what defines "worst airports". I switched airlines and had no trouble connecting, though all my luggage was carry-on. I kinda wish I had more time there because the airport is like one big shopping mall. If you get stuck there for longer than you would've liked you can walk around and explore. It's easy to navigate. You're going to wish you had more time in Rome. It's a great city and I hope to go back there some day.

We flew AZ on 4x international sectors, back in 1995. All flights were operated by the MD11's. It was my first time going overseas and in retrospect, after being on MS, SA, BA, BD, QF and a bunch of USA legacies, in my experience AZ definitely had the most atrocious service thus far.
Best of luck

I've heard mixed reviews regarding AZ, some good, some bad. I've never personally flown them, but I've been to FCO and I don't see why it would be considered one of the worst airports. It was clean, the baggage check-in did not take long, and there are some nice shops and food as well. It's no AMS, but it's not rundown like LIN.
