John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane". There's a song called "L.A. International Airport" by some lady artist many years ago, whose name escapes me at the moment. Regards.

I would include that old 70's classic "Airport" by The Motors and would also include a track by Cornershop called "The London Radar" which is all about a British United flight to Genoa - if you've never heard it you should check it out - you can find it on "Handcream for a Generation". It includes cabin announcements, conversations between the pilot and ATC, airport announcements and all kinds of interesting snippets of airline-related stuff, all backed by a funky disco beat! And I'm not biased by the fact that I was at school with the drummer of Cornershop - it's the perfect song for us airline nutters!!

I would not be surprised if NO ONE knew this one (and the only reason I thought of it was because I heard it yesterday on the oldie station) but Shelley West had a song out called "Flight 309 to Tennessee" in the late 70s or early 80's. However getting back to the original topic it would probably not be one of the BEST airplane travel songs.

The one's mentioned above are great, and I'll add those to my list, but I also like:

Copland's "Appalachian Spring," and "Rodeo." The final movement, 'the finale,' match perfectly on takeoff and landing.

I can't stop thinking about that Concorde video which had The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony."

I've also enjoy Cusco's "Flying Condor," which I discovered from Clay Lacy's website.

And we cannot forget about Delta's "Adiemus" theme, since we have Gershwin up there.

Weird, but I like Boeing's theme song (that one heard in commercials), as well.

"Take My Picture" by Filter is also great.

And U2's "It's A Beautiful Day."

Wow... Too much to mention. Let me see what the rest have to say.

There were a couple of comedy songs that made the radio morning show rounds back in the mid '80s. One was called "Airline Amy" where the singer was in love with a flight attendant he just met. The other one was "Southern Air" about a plane with a porch screen door as the main cabin door, a goose as a passenger and a bunch of hillbillies on a flight to Yazoo City, Mississippi. Absolutely hilarious song if you can find it. (Don't remember the artist names for either one, sorry.)

How about:

Nazareth: This flight tonight

Judas Priest: United
It doesn't have to do with airplane, but I always start to think about airplanes when I hear this song

not an air travel song at all, but the following line from Toto's "Africa" always bring to mind looking up at a plane on final to ORF at night:

She's coming in 12:30 flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars
That guide me toward salvation

Artist: Type O Negative
Album: October Rust

-Die with me-

Now like a bird
She flew away
To chase her dream
Of books and praise
Still I miss her
Yeah I miss her
Since she's gone

Who played the fool?
Self pity sick
Jet fuel perfume
Still I miss her
Yeah I miss her
Since she's gone

Girl I want to die with you
In each other's arms
We'll drown in flame

If this time were the last time
Could I hold you all life long?
Since this time is the last time
Can I hold you all night long?

Lay your head down, for the last time

The UK post system
Do you still love me?
Still I miss her
Yeah I miss her
Since she's gone

Who could not love CCR's lyrics?

737 comin' out of the sky
Won't you take me down to Memphis on a midnight ride
I wanna move
Playin' in a travelin' band
Well I'm flyin' 'cross the land tryin' to get a hand
Playin' in a travelin' band

Like many other people said, I highly suggest "Come Fly with Me". I kinda like that song better than "Leaving On a Jetplane" especialy when I here it on Airline UK.

Fly Like an Eagle

This is my extended list of songs that I like to listen to while flying, whether they remind me of flying, or they talk about it, or they are just good songs for that particular activity. I have more, I just didn't think that anyone really wanted to read through my 'Flying' library  Smile/happy/getting dizzy .

1. Learning to Fly - Tom Petty

2. Flower Duet (From the BA commercial) - Leo Delibes Lakme

3. Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf

4. Right Here Right Now - Jesus Jones
It was on a commercial a few years ago for... a phone company I think - shows a guy looking out the window of the plane at the world below always makes me think about flying. Right here, right now, there is no other place I'd rather be.

5. Walkin' on Sunshine - Gloria Estefan
When I was little and the Walkman just came out it was the only tape my mom had so that's what I listened to on the plane. It was a cloudy day and after we took off we were above the clouds in the sunshine. This song always makes me think that no matter what the weather is here you can fly somewhere else where it is better.

6. What's the Frequency Kenneth - REM
I had this song blasting in my headset flying on a lonely 2-hour cross-country solo flight one day and I laughed as I adjusted the frequency of the radio from ATC to enroute - what's the frequency? 126.7 of course!

7. Airplane - Indigo Girls

8. One Flight Down - Norah Jones

9. Take My Picture - Filter
A guy goes nuts on a plane and takes off all of his clothes... just another ay on the job.

10. Flight 684 to Calcutta - Punjabi Techno
I'm not sure if that's the actual name of the song. My friend has it on CD, it's a Punjabi group that does dance music, but all through the song you hear "Flight 684 to Calcutta is now boarding" or maybe it's Mumbai, but none the less an interesting song.

25 Gregg : Harry Chappin, "Northwest 222" I'm a strummin' fool out in the sticks For the glory and the bread And you're wise enough to let me sing This music in
26 Teva : If you don't mind having songs in French, you should add: 1) Lindbergh, by Robert Charlebois (who also produces good beers in his Quebec) 2) Tombe du
27 BA380 : How about 'Up Where We Belong' by Joe Cocker?
