Hello all,
My roommate and I are planning to go down to GIG for Easter weekend (March 20/21-24). We will both be non-reving and are trying to find the best way to GIG. AC YYZ-GRU is usually full and as such we are thinking of traveling on another airline, direct to GIG. Our options include:
AA
AA951 JFK-GIG on a 777
AA905 MIA-GIG on a 763
UA
UA873 IAD-GIG on a 763
CO
CO093 IAH-GIG on a 764
Could anyone please enlighten me on what would be a good option to take. Whether you used to work these flights and never have seen an empty seat, too always having weight and balance issues. Any insight would be greatly appriciated. Getting to these locations should be fairly easy on AC. JFK is direct out of YVR. IAH is direct out of YYC. IAD and MIA can easily be reached from YYZ. We live in YLW so this part of the trip is not to much of a concern for us. Also if anyone has any insight on coming home, which we assume would be similar to the trip out. Also I know of how AA deals with their non-revs first come first serve. I also know how UA deals with their non-revs having an excellent record for sitting in F. How is CO with non-revs, do they hand out upgrades easily? Do they treat you like regular pax, or as "non-revs" How are you fit into the contengent list?

Well, IMHO, you should take the IAD-GIG flight, since it's seasonal and it may not be as consolidated as the other flights. But to be honest, I am not really following the loads of these flights, so you better take a second opinion, or third.

Hi,
I have been flying the AA905 many times and the advantage is that you get a non stop to GIG that arrives after the rush traffic is pretty much over in Rio. Also it is fast to clear immigration at that time of day and you will avoid this at GRU.
The flight uses old 767,s.
Another option could be the TAM flight from MIA to MAO and connection to GIG. This flight can have some empty seats and is not a bad choice. These flights are done with A320.
Hope you will find something suitable. I will leave myself for CNF Friday morning on JJ 8095/JJ8100

I checked for flights ATL-GIG, it did not come up with anything, so it looks like I will not be able to travel on DL. Can a few people confirm that UA should be my best bet? Once I get closer to the dates, I will call the airliners for their opinion but as for now I am just thinking how how to plan it. Thanks for those who have responded thus far.
When checking online on the employee travel website, JFK-GIG showed up with AA951 and it did not show a stop in GRU, though it did give me one option JFK-GRU-GIG.

Quoting PU752 (Reply 6): Since when AA is flying JFK-GIG non-stop ? .... I think they dont, but JJ will fly that route in 2008.
It's not a non-stop but the flight is in fact JFK-GIG with a stop in São Paulo. Same as JJ daylight service GIG-JFK with stop in São Paulo, if you look on the website you will find out it's a non-stop. This is because of both airlines website that does not show stops (CO does).

I flew many times ATL-GIG during the last 12 months and all times except one in June (with a few seats on C) were full.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

Ahh I see, would not help me out to much then. So it appears lots of people like going to Brazil. AC is always full, AA, and CO are apparently full most of the time, just UA seems to give us a chance. If anyone knows anything about this, please do not feel shy in confirming what others have said, the more people to reply the more confident I feel that the information is correct.

Have you thought of CM LAX-PTY-GIG, IAD-PTY-GIG or JFK-PTY-GIG (alternate for GIG, in or outbound, GRU) ??
From my own experience, when there are holidays in Brazil (except Carnival), the PTY-GRU-PTY flights have quite a number of seats available..

Also in the event we go through IAD, we can only get there via YOW and YUL not YYZ, if those flights are full how easy is it to get to IAD from DCA where AC has 6 flights a day to YYZ?
As far as traveling CM I could not find any flights from them, this usually means that airline is not available to us for non-rev. Thanks for the idea though, would have worked out nicely going through LAX.
