Opinions On Delta & US Airways?

In September, some friends and I are taking a trip to Las Vegas:

DEPARTURE=
US Airways (A320) SMF-LAS

RETURN=
Delta (757-200) LAS-SLC
Delta (757-200) SLC-SMF

I've never flown on either airline and I'm curious as to what everyone thinks of US Airways & Delta. Any opinions?

I can't speak for Delta have had rather good experiences with US Airways. The seat pitch is good and the flight crews (old America west ones) are pretty friendly. The flip down screens are a plus but you probably would just get the trivia since the flight may be too short to fit in a movie. Otherwise, just a normal flight. As far as I have heard, the western US crews are nicer than the eastern ones. Hope you have a nice and safe trip with US and DL and I hope you like your first try with them.

US isn't known as the greatest airline, but my flights on them have generally been on time. Given that it's such a short flight, if I were you I'd just go for the nonstop.

Haven't flown on US Airways in a long time, so I can't comment on them.

But Delta has relatively good service. I've had good experiences with them and they are very efficient.

Not the biggest fan of US Airways, but for a quick flight such as SMF-LAS where you are in the air for an hour, it's pretty much any domestic flight. Pitch is a little tighter than other US carriers, but you'll get your one drink and a light snack I believe.

Same with Delta more or less. Drink service, choice of biscoffs/cheese and crackers/peanuts. Nothing too special on the short hops.

Unless your 757 is an ex-Song bird and has the IFE...

I flew SLC-SAN on one last summer and won three of the five rounds of trivia. Got a free cocktail (I chose the Chardonnay) and while not stumblingly intoxicated (I was winning the sixth round when it was turned off for landing!!), it sure made the wait at the luggage carousel quite relaxing!!  drunk

Enjoy your flights!!

I often fly into SMF and notice that US often uses an airbus on their routes. The US flight is nonstop which is a plus in my book. The DL route will be much longer with the change of planes in Salt Lake City. From what I have observed DL uses 737 on the Salt Lake City to SMF route.

My personal opinion: Your flying on one of the worst US airlines (US) and one of the best US airlines (DL). But I suppose it's a good thing your flying on US first, then DL.

My opinion:

I've flown both airlines, but I've had more exp. with US. I've:

-edited US Airways Magazine for Star Alliance updates
-went to US Airways Corp HQ in Tempe
-booked flights for family and friends on US (including signing up friends for Div. Miles)
-and have flown them a good majority

(I'm like a advertisement for them and I'm working 4 free  Smile )

so I would say

US Airways!

And plus, why does everybody make a big deal about DL? Coming back from MCO, I had a connection in ATL. It's so hard to connect there with that UPM! And the concourses are so long (not as long compared to NW at DTW).

As someone that's connected through pretty much every airport in the United States (every major hub and focus city in the US except for DEN, IAH and MSP), ATL is a cinch to connect in. Extremely easy to use layout where it takes no more than 15 minutes to get from T1 to E36 (which are the farthest apart gates in the airport) - not too shabby when you've got 180 gates at the airport. Sure the concourses are a bit narrow, but in terms of functionality it's second to none.

DTW is another great airport - yeah the A concourse is a mile long. There is the Tram though that is quite efficient to get around the A concourse. Moving walkways galore too.

Best hubs in the country are DTW, ATL and I'd probably say that DEN is up there if I ever went there. Airports such as PHL, ORD, etc. where the operations are spread out quite a bit are nightmares. While ATL can get tied up, I still prefer connecting there over CLT due to the fact that it's easy to get around (I loathe the hike out to the E gates in CLT and I was often getting sent out there since my flights would involve a GSO-CLT leg) and there are Crown Rooms pretty much everywhere (no more than a 3-4 minute walk from a lounge to my gate).

I went from T2 or 3 to C27 or so in like 10 or 20 min. When I arrived, they were almost done w/ boarding. There were a good anount of people connecting (duh) in ATL and the UPM was kind of overpacked  boxedin  .

I don't mind Delta...not the greatest airline, but not bad. I just flew them last week and one was delayed due to weather in Atlanta (not their fault), and the other left a few minutes late but got in on time...not bad for rush hour Atlanta departure.

US Airways is my arch enemy. I've had enough back experiences on them to never fly them again.
