usually i check in 3 hours before my flights that are departing from TBIT..but would it be cutting it too close if i checked in 2 hours before...im leaving on MH next thur headed to KUL and ownwards to BLR. My flight is departing at 12:35 am friday morning. I live in BFL..so i have to take the bus down...i was thinking of taking the 8 pm bus, which will get me into LAX around 10:15-10:30 pm...is that too risky?

TBIT at night is really really really busy with the construction inside the terminal and outside as well.... I would recommend for you to show up 3-4 hours before....

There is one more thing to consider:
Showing up that early only makes sense if the check-in counter is actually opened; if not, pax hanging around waiting for counters to be opened only add to overall congestion ...

Flying on LX out of LAX last October the counter was opened about 2.5 hours before departure. Until 3 hours before departure there was no sign where handling would be (IIRC, a CI-flight was handled on the very counters before the LX flight) -and as I had arrived on WN way too early I had to kill quite some time which can be problematic if having lots of luggage to attend.
BTW, check-in lines for LH Economy Class reached well outside the building, but those were not mine  fingerscrossed

To me that seems a little too close. I would leave on an earlier bus, but I'd go with HT, the guy that posted before me has to say since he knows a lot more to trying to decipher the TBIT than I do.

i reconfirmed my tix today with the MH office in LA. They said the counters would be open at 8:30 pm..i'll be getting there at 7:30 or so.so i gotta kill an hour while attending to two pieces of what will turn out to be rather heavy luggage  Sad.

Was this reconfirmation mandatory or voluntary ? . Last mandatory reconfirmation I did was with KL to AMS flying the return leg shortly before KHG Kai Tak closed.

If the counters open at 8.30pm, expect that lines will be put into place roughly half an hour earlier (depending on prior use of the counters).
While 1 hour to kill is not a nice thing (especially with heavy luggage to guard), better be safe than sorry. At least you will not have to get up in the early morning in order to catch your flight (like it was for me yesterday, but that is another story ) ...

not sure if it was mandatory or voluntary..but i do it always anyways. Well if the lines are put in place a half our before..i only got 30 mins to kill...who knows..there could be a traffic jam on the way down to LAX...somewhere there always is..hehee.
