I was wondering how long is the longest nonstop MD-11 route, and who is operating it?? Passenger carrier or cargo carrier. On a side note, i think the MD-11 is one of the best looking tri-holers!

Not so many MD-11 operators left, AY will be among them untill the spring 2010.

At the moment Finnair's longest MD-11 route is HEL-BKK 4256 nm, I think their longest ever was HEL-SFO 4706 nm.

My guess is the non-stop from Houston, Texas to Luanda, Angola, flown by World Airways three times weekly for SONAIR, Angola's national airline on a specially configured aircraft - only 113 seats. The trip is well over 7,000 miles.

Where does KLM's MD-11 stand in the ranking?

They operate them on the HYD - AMS route which is around 4000nm approximately

Is this a scheduled service, or a privately contracted flight?

It is privately contracted but operates on a fixed schedule. Flights are not open to the general public. Something to do with the oil business. Distance is 12,274 km or 6627 nm, if my info is correct.

A bumch of KL's routes have this one beat, including YVR, BON, CUR, AUA... But KL's longest MD11 route is AMS-PTY, I think (5482 mi).

Well, if we were including past routes, too, Delta was probably right up there with ATL-NRT coming in at 6,843 statute miles or 5946 nautical miles!

And some older Captains told me they used to fly FRA-MNL with the MD11F which is 5568NM..

I think the longest is surely the WO IAH-LAD route, mentioned above. As for past scheduled service, LY's short lived TLV-LAX service, operated by a leased WO MD-11ER, comes to mind. It is 6,581 nm.

How bout KLs route from AMS to Antigua barbados adams? How long is that flight? Or to SMX?

I think when many people who talk about the MD-11s tend to forget that AY is the second biggest airline operator (me thinks) and i think its because of the lack of people knowing such a small company like AY exist. But i dont blame them, if i wasn't from finland i prolly wouldnt know AY either.

Get a clue?

I'm in EWR now, waiting for my flight to Paris. Post card anyone?

As I recall their HKG-LAX MD11 was a longer trip-- maybe the longest ever.

KL doesn't serve ANU or BGI. Their current Caribbean destinations are Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten.
