I am a gold member on AA and will make my status again this year with about 28000 miles.
My question is:
Is it worth $1000 to make platinum for next year? I just received an email from AA that any flights between now and June 16th will count for double miles towards status for next year. I have found a flight from BOS - SEA via DFW for around $380. The RT will be worth about 13000 miles with the bonus, plus $100 for a hotel in SEA. I would have to fly it twice to make the 50000 miles for platinum status. It is the cheapest and seems to be the easiest way to make the required miles. Should I go for it, or settle for gold status for next year? Thanks for your help.

Well, the question is how much value would Platinum be to you?
A few things to consider:
-What are your normal routes? It seems like you're based out of BOS, so on some routes like the transcons, you'll most likely still be in the back as it's tough for ExPlats to upgrade on those. Other routes (DFW/ORD at off-peak hours, MIA, etc.) should mean it's easier to upgrade.
-100% mileage bonus vs. 25%. Sounds good, but is it worth $1000 for those extra miles?
Delta's running a similar promotion right now with the 2x MQMs and I'm taking advantage of it, doing one MR GSO-CVG-SFO-ATL-GSO; going to LAS on DL (rather than going NW which was a bit cheaper) and doing a quasi-MR to go home from GSO to BOS (going via ATL, FLL and CVG). Might need to go to JAX as well on business in May too. Thus, I'm doing 30k MQMs next month and will make Gold (equal to AA Plat) by the end of May and should hit Platinum (equal to AA ExPlat) later this year.

Thank you for your response DA
You have some good points, I will have to think about it more. I like the 100% since it will make it quicker to get free bus class on transcon flights. I also have a trip planned for CA and possible Hawaii so the upgrades will help.

I think one difference on NWA from gold to plat is that you can reserve award flights and change them at a later date at no charge. I have used this a couple of times particularly if a better award ticket becomes available.
Maybe you could check if your ff program does this as well.
