Hey everyone. I read the other day here about Finnair flying an MD11 JFK-HEL and soon chaning over to an Airbus. I want to fly on an MD11 and need some help locating a flight. I suppose that would be the easiest to jump on from the US, does KLM run them anymore and if so from somewhere in the US? Also I read that Korean utilizes a few also what about JAL?? Thanks guys for the help

Only Finnair and KLM using passenger MD11s. I think all other retired them already. And I think some flights from KLM still using the MD11 to the US... Just check their websites for it. Pick some route and check for the aircraft type. And then book soon. I think they won't be around too long...
Thank god I have 109 MD11 flights already Big grin

I think KLM is still flying the MD11 on one of its DAILY AMS-JFK-AMS during the summer.

Last summer, they also used their MD11 on AMS-SFO-AMS on certain days, alternating with B777. Don't know if it is still the case this summer.
KLM is still operating 10 MD11, I believe they must fly some of them to the US !

Correct, on the other side of the US, they also operate them to Panama and Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.

In March when I went to Europe I booked myself on Finnair for that very reason, to get on an MD11. However, my flight into JFK was cancelled, so I couldn't catch the AY flight. I guess I'll have to try again later. Since I make the trip only once a year, or sometimes once every 2 years, I may not have many chances left.

I was planning to redemm miles for a trip to Asia on KE or DXB on EK this fall. I read the atricle about AYs switch from the MD11 in Spring 2009 and I bought a DFW-JFK-HEL-JFK-DFW to fly the MD11. I have only flown AA and DL MD11s and this will be the third and final for me. I was fortunate to obtain a rt Y for $1073 which will allow me to accrue elite miles(11,008) to AA ADV. Looking forward to the AY MD11 flights!

And I am trying to avoid MD-11 these days, have got too much of a good thing  Wink Nine legs flown on AY MD-11, two Intra-European. But, saw good offers on HEL-BKK, so possibly two more legs coming in June... I admit, it's handsome and powerful a/c, but the lack of PTV sucks....

I think KLM mostly Use the MD 11 on their South American routes and caribbean.

I know they use the MD 11 on some routes to New York, but, last year when I flew KLM from Amsterdam to New York it was an Airbus 330 and a 747 on the return. So you need to check that before you book.

Is IFE the most important factor for you? Either way, I'm glad to see that won't be a problem with KL.  Wink

Hmmm, there's something to organise for A.net members !

Life is short : eat dessert first !
25 Airbuster : KL AMS-YVR is MD11 instead of A332 this summer. and also the rest mentioned. Should be enough in and around the Carribean, Central and North America.
26 WILCO737 : Well, go ahead! I don't mind! But I bet the company will say: no! Sorry! Yes, she is WILCO737 (MD11F)
27 OHLHD : No TAM still does too. Plan that for autumn! JJ8096 D GRU 1 CDG2A 2300 1520+1 0 17APR08 11OCT08 M11 11:20
28 PlymSpotter : If using Finnair and you are a student/young person, they have some quite nice and very reasonable discounted fares I have found. It's selectable duri
29 IAirAllie : Angola. That is one sweet aircraft interior. I belive you have to have permission from sonoil to go on those flights.
30 Banjo76 : Just happened to me that I will be flying an MD-11 YVR-AMS (paid by the company ), quick stopover in Amsterdam with Italian friends for bachelor part
31 Andaman : Of course not the most important factor, but seldom able to sleep on flights, PTV helps there. I have done most of my long hauls on AY MD-11, getting
32 TruemanQLD : Fly the chartered MD-11 to OOL! Ill pay big $$$ to see that!
33 UltimateDelta : You could get 350 of your closest friends and book a World AW flight!
34 TrijetsRMissed : Funny thing is, regarding your long hauls, if you lived in any other country in the world, that would not be the case. KL will have AVOD in their MD-
35 Andaman : Very true Hard to avoid MD-11 in HEL! I don't mind connecting at all but AY's long haul prices from HEL often are too tempting. I think I have to try
