Hello,
I have the option of a US$2,500 round trip business class from MIA to MAD either in CO or US.
US trip:
MIA - PHL - MAD - PHL - MIA
CO trip:
MIA - EWR - MAD - EWR - MIA
Which one would you recomend? My only trip on US was an America West to Phoenix, uneventul but good and I have never used CO before. I use AV & AA must of the time but this time neither gave me a good business class price to MAD (around $4,500).
What do you think?

I would go CO.
The BusinessFirst seats on the 762 (not sure about the 757 which also flies the route) are a step above the old Envoy seats on the US 333...but above that, the service on CO is far and away better.

Quoting Meta (Reply 2): This is a very simple choice
I completely agree. Go with Continental. Excellent food, service, and in flight experience in general.
I would also suggest you sign up for Onepass. The miles are good for 3 yrs (though they don't enforce this I'm told), and the number of miles is pretty generous. Further, with their rather large selection of retail on line partners, you can keep earning miles for another flight.
Sides, you may find you like flying CO and will need the Onepass number anway!
While in Newark, definately go to the President's Club -- great views of the terminal.

CO without a doubt. US' Envoy in general is one of the worst international premium cabins of the domestic US airlines. Several of the folks on FlyerTalk have stopped flying US due to how much Envoy has fallen in the past 5 years or so.

Thank you for your advices... unfortunately to me, the price with CO got to US$3,840 when trying to book it, the previous price when checking it throughly, gave me BIZ class MIA-EWR and then coach EWR-MAD, so I had to purchase US for US$ 2,678.. I promise a good TR with pictures and objective opinions when I get back from Madrid..
Again, thank you for your answers!!

I would go US because when flying envoy and passing via PHL, you get to go to the Envoy lounge. US is consistenly upgrading the envoy on thier planes; its just luck if you ask me if you get a crappy Envoy . I'll be taking my 25th flight on US and they have never let me down.

I'll agree with the comments about the Envoy lounge in PHL. One of the best lounges I've ever been in. But I also agree with the others that CO is the better choice for the actual flights.

Why? Except for the Envoy lounge, CO is a MUCH better airline IMO. Flew their Business Class last month.
ORF/EWR/NRT/GUM/NRT/EWR/ORF
Same trip we took JAL Business Class NRT/SIN/NRT. CO beat them too if you ask me. I was a little surprised, as I was expecting a little better from JAL.

Quoting Bok269 (Reply 4): I believe they are the same BF seats across the entire fleet.
No. The 772 seats are 170 degree "flat". The 76x and 752 seats are old-style recliners. My memory of BF in the 777 includes sliding down the seat and being really uncomfortable when the cabin temp went up; the lack of any gaspers was annoying. The food service was good though.
In my [limited] experience as a former US elite, now CO elite (both lowly silver), this is true. The only problem is that CO tends to be fairly pricey in comparison to US.
Oddly enough CO seems to have better FF ticket availability than US did (both as elite).

Without judicious use that's a great path towards losing money. Unless you'd already be buying something from one of the partners and can get miles for it, you're generally better off shopping for the best price. The money you save will generally get you towards a "free" ticket faster than FF miles. Unless the miles cost you $0.01 or less, they're not worth it.
I once earned >40,000 OnePass miles from a single online partner purchase (guess what that was). The thing is I decided what and where to buy before I noticed the promotion. On the other hand, had I not been in a rush, I might have been able to find some discount code for the purchase that would have saved me more than $400 (usually the discounts can't be applied to FF mile-earning purchases).

I flew from IAH-EWR-MAD-EWR-IAH last summer. The flight was on the 764 both ways. The only annoying thing I encountered was on the EWR-MAD leg, it seemed like it took the crew 3 hours to turn off the lights. The flight was a measly 6 hours, so that ment I got about an hours worth of sleep. The meals in Y were great.
