Hey guys,

I might be in Ohio in September, and am looking at ways of getting from Cincinnati CVG to any airport from which I can catch an evening flight on BA back to LHR. I'm looking for the cheapest options as so far cheapest direct non-stop flight is $580 to PHL i think. Ideally i'm looking for a fare that will be no more than $200 one way per person. Does anyone have suggestions for Airlines or Routes i should try or alternatively a different departure airport in the Cincinnati area?? Really appreciate the help guys!

Toby

Drive to Columbus and take Southwest from CMH to BWI. (Or PHL, but I can't recommend PHL to anyone.) $50 to $200-ish depending on day and time.

Or, if you don't mind flying all day, you can take AA from CVG thru MIA (!!!!) to JFK for $350-ish, depending on the exact day of the week. (IMHO this is a great example of wildly irrational pricing by the majors, but whatever.)

CVG is of course a Delta stronghold, and you're going to see higher prices in general if you leave from CVG.

Fly, you fools! Fly!

I know a few people that live in Cincinnati and always drive up to DAY to catch their flights - often it means flying right back through CVG, but it saves them a ton of money.

It also doesn't help CVG that it's a legacy stranglehold - DL alone has something like 88% of the traffic there, and then the rest is on US, UA, CO, NW and AA only (and of those, it's all RJs save for a few A320/737 to ORD on UA).

How about CAK? Akron is nice and small and rapidly growing! FL and US seem to be the cheapest carries in Akron. Enjoy it while its still small  Smile. And honestly:

Who doesn't love CAK?  Smile

CAK just happens to be on the absolute other end of Ohio - no point in driving 4 hours to catch a flight, especially when CMH (WN), DAY (FL), SDF (WN) and IND (WN, FL) are all within a 2 hour drive of Cincinnati.

Looking on a couple random dates in September, I've found one-way flights from DAY-BWI ($63) on FL. If you're going to be in the Cincinnati area, DAY is probably the nearest alternative airport to CVG, and this is certainly a very cheap fare to a BA destination.

Why not try CO into CLE and change planes there to DAY?

or NW through DTW?

Just some food for thought.

All good suggestions guys, but as we will be traveling non-rev on BA, we would prefer to end up at an airport with multiple BA departures. Now looking at just hoping to get on a non-rev ORD flight with either AA, UA or DL. I like the idea of flying DAY-BWI, but would really have to be lucky with the BA loads on the one-a-day service. Would also prefer not have to drive anywhere as we will have had a very long drive to Cincinnati the previous day.

For September travel you should be in good shape non-revving - travel in September tends to die down a bit as all the families are back in school, so leisure travel is greatly reduced in that month.

You should have no problem non-revving to either ORD, JFK, BOS, PHL or IAD.

Why are fares DAY-CVG-JFK available at $116 whilst the cheapest CVG-JFK fares are $632???? I just cannot get my head around how inexplicable that is!

You pay for the privilege of going nonstop. If you went nonstop DAY-JFK it would likely also be much higher than $116, a fare at which the airline has no possible hope of making money.
