I recently flew DXB to MEM on KLM and then NWA in coach. I must say that I was quite impressed with the meals and IFE on both of them. How do these two compare to other airlines, had I flown them? Or are they pretty much on par with other carriers? I know I had like 30 movies to choose from and I don't recall that on Delta, COA or Emirates, but could be wrong?

I know that the NWA service gets slammed on here quite a bit, the the trans-atlantic experience on NWA is actually quite good. Pls explain what " like 30 movies to choose from" means as opposed to "about 30 movies to choose from"? I'm like, wanting to know.

Northwest maybe not have that great of a domestic reputation, but on transatlantic flights you can be surprised. They have good AVOD in Y on the A330 and good meals. Unfortunately, you can't fix the FA's. KLM has excellent AVOD in Y and good meals also. Their FA's and service is always good too.

I am just back from the following trip on NWA and KLM:
IST-AMS - KLM - B 737-900
AMS-MSP - NWA - A 330-300
MSP-LAX - NWA - A 320-200
LAS-DTW - NWA - B 757-200
DTW-AMS - KLM - B 777-200ER
AMS-IST - KLM - B 737-900
The service on the short flights is nothing worth mentioning. NWA food for sale as usual and KLM served the tiniest meal ever and IFE non-existing.
However, long haul flights were a lot better. Food on NWA was great and the IFE was also good and was AVOD. KLM food and IFE was even better. But the only negative is the size of the TV screens. Both are tiny. Just about the same as AF and CO that I also recently flew. KLM had an impressive array of choice but both the choices and size is nothing compared to some of the other airlines I flew like TK, EK, SQ, TG....
The average age of FAs on the NW long haul flight was about 55 but they were nice. KL crew was much younger and much friendlier...

Of the US carriers, NW offers the best transatlantic experience in coach, in my experience (provided that you're on an A330). KLM isn't known for having the best premium classes, but they have great service and are a very good option.
