So I'm going to visit Northwestern University in a week and a half (cutting it a little close I realize) and am trying to figure out whether it would be best in terms of convenience to fly (flight times and fares being equal) into ORD or MDW. Any thoughts?

From ORD you will have about a 35 minute drive to the campus. Not sure from MDW, but my guess would be an 1:15 ish.

MDW is easier to get to/from if you are using the CTA. ORD you would have to take 1 train and 2 busses, whereas MDW is all train. Just take the orange line to the red line to the purple line. It sounds like a lot of transfers, but it is actually quite easy.

MDW is much easier to fly in and out of, plus the loop isn't too difficult to navigate.

You may not get much variety at MDW, but the landing makes up for it. So much braking. Also where are you flying from? If WN flies there chances are it MIGHT be a bit cheaper flying them as opposed to ORD.

I'd say take the CTA from MDW. Yesterday the outbound just from downtown to the MDW area was 1 hour, 15 minutes on the freeway. Like others have said, just go Orange Line into the Loop and the Purple line north to Evanston. Transfer at the Library stop in the Loop. Use the Foster or Davis stops on the Purple Line.

Couldn't you just take the Blue Line from ORD into the Loop and then the Red/Purple Line up to Evanston?

Why are you all suggesting the red line? Theres no reason he needs to use the red line from either. He can get on the purple line and go up from either the Lake/Clark Station off the blue (ORD) line, or the Library Station off the orange (MDW) line. MDW is a bit closer to downtown, is a smaller terminal to commute and will take less time to get to the transfer. Here is the current slow-downs on the Blue Line and Red Line.

And the same for the Orange and Purple lines: (Don't bother, both have no new info)
