Which Would You Choose...EY Or QR?

Hello all. I just found out that I have to travel from ATL to DXB. DL wants $9400 for C Class for the nonstop. While I am a platinum already reached again for next year, I see that from JFK-DXB both EY and QR have service for half the price $5400. Of course you have to make a short connection but that is fine. EY flies their A340 via AUH and then a bus to DXB (I thought at one time they offered a limo, is that no longer the case)? Or I can take QR via DOH on their 777 connecting in only 60 mins on an A320.

Fuuny thing too is that EY is daylight over and night time back and vice versa on QR.

Has anyone compared the service. I really wanted to take the new EK A380 but that flight is almost $10K....do not think the company will spring for my pleasure!

Appreciate any insight and rest assured I will provide a trip report. Next week I am off to AKL on NZ... unfortunately in the back as Premium Economy is sold out on my dates.

P.S. after DXB I have a three day trip between DXB and JED...anyone know how SV is or if the new LCCs SAMA or NAS go to DXB? Should be a whirlwind month!

How much is EK from IAH? Maybe that might be cheaper and be an ok connection ATL-IAH-DXB? or via YYZ?

Just a thought!

I checked out of IAH and CO via LHR to EK is almost $8K and EK nonstop is over $11K. I think that I would prefer to try either EY or QR as I have flown EK before. They are good but for 50% less I do not mind a connection. Any others out there with an opinion?

Quoting Globalflyer (Thread starter):
Has anyone compared the service.

I wrote a trip report on both airlines in the past year.

Etihad: A Diamond In The Rough (pics)

Hopefully these are of some help to you. If you have any more questions for me, please feel free to ask.

I have never flown either, although both get great reports in all classes of service.

It's just a result of their marketing campaign, but I believe EY has a more innovative approach to their service concepts ('zones' instead of 'classes' etc.)

IIRC the 'bus' service from AUH to DXB - while it doesn't sound particularly sexy - is actually of the luxury coach variety and it supposed to be comfortable and quick.

Plus you should get to fly on A345 which is such a handsome a/c, not to mention quite a rare thing!

IIRC QR stops in GVA on the NYC-DOH sector - the IAD service goes non-stop

Looking forward to the trip report regardless of who you fly with (and for the NZ flights too!)  Smile

I have the same decision to make, and am actually inclining towards EY as their C is flat beds, while QR is flat but with a slope. I would recommend you check that first of all - it's much nicer sleeping on a flat bed and not on a slide, as good as QR are (and they are amazing), in terms of service. then again, EY is introducing "Inspired Service" now on C long haul. would also advise you to check if that's already implemented on your flight.

OK. I chose QR and do not think I will regret it. C Class to DOH and F class to DXB. I am excited! I will provide a TR. Also taking SV to/from JED and RUH. Have no idea what to expect?
