Plain ans simple you can ring the Swiss iffices here in Australia and reserve a seat. I do it all the time when i fly to ATH from SYD whenever i fly with SQ or Ek. So i do not see y Swiss would not do the same

Because some airlines don't do seat reservations for short haul. So I am asking if anyone knows if one can, without me ringing up and being on hold for no reason

I'm gonna fly with LX this Saturday FRA-ZRH-MAD in business.
Up to now I didn't care to make a reservation for a specific seat, as long as I get a window seat, which is my prefered option in my Miles&More profile.
From what I see they block the middle seat in their Airbus fleet, but I'm not so sure about their Avros, which have a 2-3 seating.
Concerning the meal service I'm looking forward getting some nice food. Given the lengths of your sectors I assume that there is only on the LIS legs the chance to get some hot food.
But you might want to look here : http://www.airlinemeals.net/indexMeals.html
This picture is taken from that site, it was on a ZHR-FRA flight (number 253)
