Hello to all. I'll keep it quick. I am in need of a holiday and since i am a member of this airline community i thought i might ask for some advice for my trip.

Firsy and foremost i will not be travelling for around another year , once i have made arrangements i will post a message close to the time in regards to some plane spotting areas at the city's that i hope , god willing , to visit.

(1 ) SYD - PVG - PEK - SFO - SEA - LAX - MEM - SXM - LGA - TLV - ATH ( then possibly back to SYD ) . This itinery i am hoping to undertake.

( 2 ) Do i choose One World or Star Alliance

( 3 ) Either way i go wich airlines would any1 recommend to fly and offcourse in what seat

( 4 ) Is it a good idea to book 6 months in advance or wait closer to the time that i wish to depart

Just trying to sort some stuff out for now. Thanx in advance 1821

Well, first of all you say your wish to do a RTW trip and your proposed itinerary is, essentially, that. However, you need to ascertain is it the RTW journey you're doing irrespective of cost, or wishing to do it on a RTW ticket, as there is an astronomical difference in costs between those two things A RTW ticket will easily allow you to do such a journey, but is subject to certain considerations, the most important being all travel must be in one direction (backtracking only permitted when not physically possible to travel in same direction), and to a lesser degree, mileage constraints.
Your proposed itinerary would fall a long way outside using a RTW ticket......i.e. you're constantly flying back and forth, such as SYD-PVG-PEK is westerly, then you want to fly eastward to SFO etc. Another obvious flaw would be LGA (a mileage restricted apt anyhow)....you certainly can't fly to TLV, backwards to ATH and then backwards again to SYD. Unless you wish to pay an astronomical fare for one-way tickets between your destinations, you'd need to completely revise your itinerary so that travel is continously in one direction. It depends entirely upon your personal needs of course, and subject to if it is a requirement that you complete the stops in any specific order
As for which alliance......well, that would be a matter of personal choice but, in my opinion the obvious one would be Star considering the type of routing. What do you by asking which seat?
For a journey such as that I would recommend you book and purchase a RTW ticket as far in advance as you possibly can.......but remember that no leg can be booked more than 330 in advance on any airline. I would also recommend the use of a Travel Agent as opposed to trying to do it yourself.

I would recommend that you go to www.flyertalk.com. forums.

There you will find all the ins and outs of RTW ticketing including all the restrictions.

For seat selection, go to www.seatexpert.com or www.seatguru.com.

The Star Alliance website as a RTW planning tool with a trip validator.

At the flyertalk website in the OW forums there is a link to a OW RTW trip validator as will.

That should get you started.
