Advice Needed On Transfer At Frankfurt

I need some advice from those fellow travelers who have experience with a transfer in Frankfurt. I have an upcoming trip on Lufthansa from Newark to Frankfurt. There is a two-hour layover, then another Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Tel Aviv. What is the procedure? Do you have to go through customs & immigration, passport control, security? Do you have to transfer from one terminal to another? I can speak a little German, but mostly just the basic phrases. I would like to know what I should expect during this transfer. Thank you.

I'm not sure if TLV has any other special procedures, but typically after you land in FRA you just stay airside so there is no need to go through passport control or security as if you would stay in the EU. If you already have your boarding card, you can go straight to the gate. If not, just go to a LH transfer desk. Your bags should be checked right through. Both flights shoud be arriving and departing from T1, so no need to switch terminals but maybe piers.

As I said, I'm not sure about TLV flights, you may have to go through an extra security or passport control for them.

I think there'll be another security control prior to you being able to get to the actual gate - but other than that, ACDC8 and BWE320 pretty much pointed out what needs to be said.

Don't worry - the trip from gate to gate (even with extra security) shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, if at all that long.

This is highly likely (dictated by extra security measures for flights to TLV ).

No. You stay airside internationally, non-Schengen.
You clear customs only at TLV. Same for immigration.

Like the others have said, FRA may be a maze (especially if the area you are in is affected by construction work), but even then everything is clearly signposted and 2 hours is more than enough to make the transfer (even if your inbound flight is late by one hour).

Well actually, LH is now using the new Area C of terminal 1 from flights to TLV. it was always in C, but now TLV flights are talking off from the new additional part added to this area.
basically, you stay on the airside so no passport control is needed. and actually now, the only security check you will go through is a screening for the hand luggage just before the gate (which is usually C13). before you had to go 2 security checks - entering to concourse C, and before the gate, but now it's just one. and that's it.

I've never been to Israel, but I assumed they may have an extra security based on what I've seen walking by gates to TLV. Thanks for confirming.

Getting slightly off-topic:
Extra security measures also are applied airside: Among these, at both ZRH and HAJ I have seen a/c from LY being escorted by police tanks (not just "armoured cars") all the way from their intial stand to the runway.

Yep, I've seen those at DUS and FRA as well. I remember being on the observation deck at DUS a few times and some heavily armed personal would come out, a couple of those vehicles would head out to the runway and you'ld know that an EL AL flight was coming in. FRA would also have some extra armed personal standing around the aircraft at the gate, was an interesting site to see when taking the airport tour.
