Didn't quite know which board to post this question. Here's a thought....YOu see alot of remakes of classic movies these days. Some are good, a nice tribute to the original, while some are bad...they should have left a classic alone. But what about the movie "Airport"? If you were to be given the task of remaking that film, how would you do it?

*Which modern day actor would you have play the parts of Joe Patroni, Mel Bakersfield, the old lady stowaway, the bomber guy....etc, etc, etc.

*Which airport would you have the movie filmed at?

*What type of aircraft would Trans Global Airlines Flight 2 be operated with?

Any imput?

TGA 2 could be an A380, but for a US airline 747 or 777.

Make it interesting and not put you to sleep.
Thank God for Airport 1975, Airport 1977 and 1979 The Concorde.
Those three were awesome!  Cool

The problem with the first Airport movie was that it was too much of a soap opera.
Add more airplane scenes and get rid of Barry Nelson as the pilot and his unnecessary dialog.

Today I would still use a 707 or 747 or A340.
No twins what so ever.
They just aren't exciting planes.
Is George Kennedy still able to act?
An Airport movie without him is just not complete.

for Joe Patroni I'd definitely put Mel Gibson. We all know who he'd turn to when it came to blaming his problems on....  duck

Mel Gibson (a bit of tough guy attitude with the right amount of comic value).

Quoting CairnterriAIR (Thread starter):
Mel Bakersfield

David Caruso (don't really like him, but I think the role suits him).

Quoting CairnterriAIR (Thread starter):
the old lady stowaway,

Betty White (haven't seen her for a while and she could add the right amount of comic value to the role).

Quoting CairnterriAIR (Thread starter):
the bomber guy

Robin Williams (his drama abillities are amazing).

No idea, maybe MSP. Some place where an international flight would be possible but not an aiport that already has dozens of them. And of course, lots of snow.

What type of aircraft would Trans Global Airlines Flight 2 be operated with?

A343 (need something modern but also a hint of 707 look alike  Wink ).

Captain Demerest: George Clooney (Dean's shoes are tough to fill, but George could pull it off).

The cast....
Dean Martins role to George Clooney(ACDC8..I like that one)
Burt Lancaster's role.....Densil Washington
Mrs. Livingston......Jacklyn Smith
Mrs Ada Quinset.....Betty White
Mr. Guerrero(the bomber) Anthony Hopkins or Jack Nicholson
Mrs Guerrero....Merrill Streep
Lloyd Nolans role(the customs agent)...Dennis Hopper
Joe Patroni.........Hugh Lauire...(star of House..smart but irritable)
Flight Twos pilot.....Bill Paxson(from Twister and Titanic)
The irritating passenger in 22D....Morgan Freeman
F.A. Meyan(Jackie Bissetts role)...Eva Larue(CSI Miami)
Burt Lancasters bitchy wife......Sharon Stone

The above can play these roles very, very well ..too bad the budget wont allow it.

Why don't we cast George Kennedy as a gate agent or the bus driver...a cameo?
safe

Those two could work quite well  Smile

Mrs Ada Quinset.....Betty White

I was thinking maybe Jacqueline Bisset should do that role (she played Gwen Meighen in the original) so it would make for a nice insiders cameo.

First things first.

You would absolutely have to set it in the same era as the original, as some plot lines are unbelievable in present times. Ada Quinset stowing away on flights today would be a lot harder to achieve in today's climate. Same with Mr. Guerrero bringing a bomb on board (although the fact that in our present times, test explosives had gone undetected by screeners). Plus you have to make sure at least one of the flight attendants was male (all in the name being politically correct; now whether you make him as flamboyant as Johnny Jacobs of the Airplane! movies, that's another issue).

I definitely agree with the thought of putting some of the original actors in roles in the film. Have George Kennedy play Commissioner Ackerman or maybe write in a character where he's the president of an airline (After all, look at how Patroni moved up the ladder in the sequels).

I think the only person that would be ideal to play Capt. Demerest is Pierce Brosnan. I'm not a big fan of Clooney trying to channel Deano (and Frank) in those useless Ocean's movies.

Hello Airplanes? Yeah, it's Blimps. You win, bye....

Well now Mr. Moderator, I do believe you have hit a home run with that post. I cannot argue or even attempt to counterpoint what needs to be done IF the movie is remade. Excellent points!
As for our former James Bond, yes, I can see him in Dino's old role. I'm not a fan of actor George Clooney either but he could pull that role off nicely.  yes
