Quoting PanAm747 (Reply 5): SAN-MIA on AA (I can NOT understand why we don't have this!!)
SAN-YVR/YYC/YYZ/YUL on AC mainline - but even the 170/190's would be great!!
SAN-all the ExpressJet routes on ANY airline - Q400 or RJ!! Even an EM2 on the shorter routes!
SAN-MEX on MX or AM
SAN-FRA on LH
SAN-LHR on BA or Virgin
SAN-NRT on NH (maybe with the 787?)
SAN-YYZ-MNL on PR
I want to see these heavy planes land at SAN.
It is interesting enough landing in a 757 or 321 on rwy 27. Not to mention the noise abatement restrictions.
Bottom line, San Diego needs a new airport farther from the center of the city.

Well, my closest airport doesn't have many long haul flights. Actually only one: HAM-EWR CO757 and HAM-DXB (various airplanes) And that's about it.
So, basically every long haul flight with a heavy would be nice and something different. DL used to fly 763s to HAM and Canada 3000 with 330s long time ago...
So I keep my fingers crossed that there will be more north American destinations will be available from HAM
I have NO clue why this route will not stay... I know TIJ is close, but there has to be some convenience factor for San Diegans to use SAN. You need a passport for land crossings now anyway, so there's no advantage of going to TIJ to fly to MEX anymore anyway, except I guess that you can fly a 777...

That is supposed to be one of top list NH 787 destinations... of course, God knows when they will actually GET them.
I believe you're referring to SAN-YVR-MNL, which has been applied for, but can't be approved until the Philippines is reverted to FAA Cat I status...
SAN-YYZ-MNL would be quite out of the way, wouldn't it
As for the others, obviously operational issues hurt Europe flights from SAN. The A340-600 actually could make a full payload to LHR or FRA (LH or VS), but the question is, could either airline fill an aircraft that big on a route from SAN?

Whoops! Those darn Y codes...easy to get them confused!! Thanks for correcting me...and yeah, SAN-YYZ-MNL would be a LONG way out of the way!!
Maybe the reason SAN can't keep a SAN-MEX route is the frequency offered by TIJ. There are so many flights offered at this curfew-less airport that it probably isn't cost-effective.
By the way, Volaris is offering bus transportation from TIJ airport to/from San Diego's Amtrak station. Interesting hook-up...

That would be what kills it. Takes nothing to make a land crossing into Mexico at Tijuana. But the land crossing coming back would suck.
