Hi,
I flew ELAL JFK-TLV last year for birthright. We flew a packed 772 there, and I flew the 744 back. Security wasn't my biggest fan, so I was asked lots of questions. It didn't help that I didn't know hebrew and hadn't had a bar mitzvah. Coming back, I had a bunch of security. At that point, I was flying alone and had spent two weeks after Israel in Egypt. They basically made me empty my suitcase, and I got extra security every time I went through a security checkpoint.
Service is hit or miss. I think the food was decent. The IFE is okay. The screens on the 744 are tiny, so the 772 is a bit nicer and much newer.
Have a great flight and enjoy your time in Israel!.

Generally, LY's security procedures are tighter than any other airline in the US.
With that said, your nationality, ethnicity, religion and complexity play a role in how tight security procedures for you will be - especially when you fly OUT of TLV.
At the end of the day, they are professionals. Be respectful and cooperative and answer all their questions truthfully.
I fly to and from TLV about 6 to 10 times a year. I do 99% of my flying on CO... I tried DL and LY twice.... not a fan. Security is always tight but they're very professionals

The stamps on your passport make a difference too, if you're traveling to Israel you might want to avoid traveling to any Middle Eastern / Arabic countries before. It'll save some trouble and questioning, as the security should be increased dramatically now given the current situation between Israel and Palestine.
