I am flying to HKG from JNB in C on SA286 in January.

Does HKG offer an arrival lounge for Star Alliance Gold members or passengers in C? What are the departure lounge options for SA or Star Alliance Gold?

South African Airways only has international arrival lounges in JNB and LHR. On the airside at HKG, I believe South African Airways makes use of Cathay’s Wing Lounge on the departures level. If you are Star Gold you should also be able to make use of SQ’s lounge. It seems as if TG’s and UA’s respective lounges are quite a walk from Cathay’s Wing Lounge.

Hope this is of some sort of value.

Only a pleasure - enjoy HKG! If you are making use of the HKG Airport train, on your way back to South Africa: Check your luggage in and get your airline boarding pass, either at Kowloon- or Hong Kong Central stations. It's a great way to get rid of heavy baggage early in the day + you don't have to lug everything around.
