So I booked a holiday with Going Places (Airtours) and I picked up my tickets today and found out they have subbed the flight out to Monarch. We are going from Liverpool to Reus (Spain) and the flight is on 15 August. I have never flown on Monarch before. Anybody know what a/c type will operate this service? And also, how are they? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I beleive the LPL based Monarch a/c is an A320-200. Although, this may have changed.
They are a very good airline, having flown on the A300 and A320 of theirs.
Have a good holiday

I have always found Monarch to be very good in terms of charter airlines. Shame its not a A321 as most of theirs are shiney new ones! Some of their A320s are fairly older ones, but I flew on one recently and it was still an excellent flight!

You are lucky that your flight has been switched to Monarch.
Monarch is the longest established UK Charter airline having been owned and operated by the same company since it was formed in the late 1960s. Whilst Monarch is still flying strong, many other charter airlines have disappeared from the skies, and that alone would be enough to say that Monarch must be a good well-run airline. It has a modern fleet and was the first European airline to order and fly the 757 - a few of which are still flying today. I think Monarch bases an A320-200 at LPL.
All my flights with Monarch have been enjoyable and they are my preferred airline even on routes on which BA also flies. You can expect high standards of service from the friendly cabin crew who, when compared with many other charter carriers, convey a very professional approach. Don't expect any gourmet food but Monarch's catering is ample and good when compared to other airlines. The only drawback would be the restricted seat pitch but that is the same on all other charter carriers. Try and get the emergency exit row seats for extra room (not sure which row this is on the A320 but there is a seating plan on the Monarch website that may show this).
In case anyone wonders, I do not work for Monarch! My views are simply as a very satisfied Monarch customer.
Have a good holiday and write about the trip so we can see if Monarch is still the top.

Monarch are fine. The only issue I have is that the uniforms are (were?) ridiculously over-the-top formal... The hats made the crew look like Margaret Thatcher's elderly maiden aunt. I think they thought that they convey 'Quality' and 'Respectability' by the uniforms, when actually I thought they were just silly.

Call me old fashioned but I like the Monarch uniforms. They do give a "quality" and "respectability" approach unlike easyJet's orange shirts that convey a garage mechanic's approach!
What uniform do Ryanair cabin crew wear (I never flown with them), or do they cost-cut and come in their own clothes?

Ryanair actually have a very smart uniform, I can't manage to find a picture of it!
The new Ryanair uniform was revealed in December 1999.
The new uniform is a Ryanair design and consists of a chic ‘French’ style two piece fitted suit in Ryanair’s well-known corporate colours (blue and yellow). The suit, which was manufactured by Private Collections, is blue and is complemented with a lemon blouse with a blue trim.
From the start, Ryanair’s cabin crew were actively involved in creating the new image and considered many different designs before deciding on the chosen uniform because of its style and practicality. The new suit is young and vibrant reflecting the overall ethos of Ryanair, which continues to lead the way in air-travel all over Europe.
‘This new uniform is in keeping with Ryanair’s image in that it reflects a young, modern, European company celebrated for its commitment to delivering low fares with the bonus of record punctuality and unbeaten ‘best value for money’ service.

that is fair - the EZ nylon/polyester/silkeleene blouse is hideous. I just thought that the Monarch 'Thatcher' outfit was stretching the credibility a little too far!
