I will get to VCE this weekend, and being there for the first time, I would like to know as much as possible about the airport:
-seats, are there any in the departure hall?
-restaurants
-shops
-spotting opportunities
I might even consider sleeping (or better said, loosing time) in the airport at night, since my flight leaves very early in the morning, so the seating info is very useful.
Also, is there any place in or around the terminal (but closer to the terminal building, not hundreds of metres / yards away) which gives you visibility towards the runway or parked aircrafts?
Any info would mean a lot to me.
Thanks in advance.

I flew out of there around xmas. Not many seats around check-in but LOADS when you are past security. Pretty good views out to the apron and the runway (though it wasn't terribly busy at the time I was there). A few places to eat and some VERY expensive duty-free boutique places (only one small shop selling booze/ciggies that I could find!). All in all, though, a clean and modern terminal. Shame about the infernal tv's which were on a loop though - made it difficult to rest!

Pretty much, although you can see some of it from outside the terminal building. I know there's a camp site at the end of the runway (cos I have stayed there in the past!) but that only really has views of the planes on their take-off rolls.
As far as views of the apron from outisde the airport boundary, I'm afraid I couldn't tell you, although one side has the terminal and the other is fairly close to the water, so I don't know how feasible (or restricted) it is to view the apron from this side.

VCE is a lovely airport. Before checkin is a little mental. Especially if you hit a busy patch. Not a very deep check-in area so queues snake all over the place. Get their early when you check-in. But after security is great. Lots of seating and it is very nice and clean! I agree it is rather expensive but it is Venice!

Ermenegildo Zegna, The North Face, Burberry, Roberto Cavalli or Calvin Klein are shops you can find at Venezia Airport.
If you arrive with little time to get your flight, you could make the last lunch / dinner at the Spizico restaurant...
You can get many opportunities to make spotting at VCE airport seeing all the arrivals / departures from the main runway. Too, you can take the last photos of the Fokker 100 fleet stored of Alpi Eagles.

Gerard
