Okay, so I'm looking at crossing the Atlantic here in a few weeks.
I have a choice between a 14 hour layover in EWR, or a 6 hour layover.
It's on a weekday, from 6am to 9pm, or if I take the shorter option, from about 4pm to 9pm.
Turns out it's hard to get to anywhere from Alaska, on anything resembling a convenient time schedule!
If I were to take the longer layover, can you guys tell me some good stuff to do? How do I get from EWR to the Big Apple? Can I visit Ground Zero? The Empire State bldg.? What kind of budget are we looking at?
Or should I just save it for a different trip and take a shorter layover?

If I were you I would take the 14 hour stopover and see NYC!
You have several Options from EWR.
I know that you can take an arranged tour to NYC from EWR (Hotel shuttle Area). I took
that tour in 2004. I believe that I was picked up at 09.00AM.
Or you can take the train into Midtown and go on your own. Perhaps you can take the
circle line from Jersey and see the Statue of Liberty and/or Ellis Island.
It all depends on what you want to do. NYC is a great city where you can see and do
so many things.
If you opt for the 4 hour layover, you may be able to purchase a day pass for the
CO presidents lounge. You have a great view in that lounge!
