I am presently in Rio De Janeiro and am looking in to taking this flight home next week using a ZED fare ticket, and I was wondering if this flight ever runs into weight restrictions? Have standby's been left behind in GIG? I have a few options and the CO flight is the last departure of the evening so I could try the other airlines (DL to ATL, UA to IAD, AA to JFK) but the IAH flight has a better connection to LAS where I want to then catch HA back to HNL.
And speaking of LAS, how realistic would it be to arrive into IAH from GIG at 0600 and try to make a 0715 departure to LAS? I have never cleared customs in IAH before so I am wondering if this plan of mine is doable. Is 1:15 enough time?
And last but not least, if anyone at CO has access to load info, and could share it with me via private message, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm looking at GIG-IAH on 2/9.
Thank you!
HALFA

you should not have any problems on the non-stop GIG-IAH flight in regards to weight restrictions or seats available. Plenty of both. We do run into weight restrictions/balance problems out of GRU due to the amount of freight that is available in GRU.
Clearning customs for a 0715 departure should be no problem.
okay, I'm waiting for the rich to spread the wealth around to me. Please mail your checks to my house.

Aloha Halfa !
Wow... i'll be in Rio soon... by Feb 20 ! Enjoy the city for me.
In fact all flights Brazil-US are showing very light loads. GRU-IAH shows just 10C 54Y booked (767-400 with 25C layout) and GIG-IAH shows 16C 59Y only. I believe IAH flights face problems with higher loads (not from GIG with 4,000 metters runway at sea level) and both cargo markets together.
AA, DL and UA flights are also wide open.
Just need to say AA is just flying GRU-MIA 2x daily some days of the next week.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

Hello Felipe!
Too bad you aren't here now, I would by you a choppe! The weather has been perfect here for the last week, much better than NYC.

That is amazing! Why do you think the loads on Brazil-US flights are so low now? Increased capacity of all airlines? The new flights from FOR, REC, and CNF taking away passengers from GIG and GRU? The economic downturn? As you know, I am a frequent visitor to GIG and in the past, I normally would just buy a regular ticket because it was almost impossible to fly standby to and from GIG. But now the loads are so light, which is really great for airline employees! When I flew down here last week on UA from IAD, there were only 14 of us in business class, and less than 80 passengers in Y. Looks like my flight back to America will be empty as well.
Aloha

We may justify with almost all you mentioned...
Quoting HALFA (Reply 3): Increased capacity of all airlines
And TAM i think is the one that continues to do well, that's the advantage of a strong Brazilian Network against other competitors.

May be, but i don't think so. The flights to Northeast and CNF could replace 2 daily flights to Rio/São Paulo but in fact if we consider UA/DL/AA/CO current loads, the drop on demand was closer to 50% or about 8 flights.

Flights from Brazil to US are really doing not so good as it use to be. First because Brazilians are not traveling like 2007/2008 with a weak currency (come from BRL 1.60 to BRL 2.30) and also because less americans are coming to Brazil (even with a stronger US$).
My flight GIG-ATL on Jan 18 was full, but nowadays only Friday to Sunday ones are doing well, the other days are not so good.
I see that probably some airlines will try to downgrade their products or even reduce their schedules. Even TAM anticipates the extra MIA flights that was supose to end by the middle of march to the end of February and begin a promo based on a mix of miles and cash.
I do expect some fare sales on Business Class soon !
