I need to travel to LAX (ex-IST) at the end of October for a week. 17-25 or 17-26 October 2009. When I travel long haul, I tend to buy my ticket as early as I can and I usually go the best bargains that way. Right now, the cheapest tickets cost about 900 USD. With the financial crises expected to last for at least 2009, do you think airlines will have special fares later in the year like they are doing now?
On top of it, I have about 45000 miles with Flying Blue which I can not seem to get rid of (due to their outrageous taxes on European flights). Do you think AF/KL may reintroduce "Promo Awards" for October this year? If not LAX, I can still get to any US major city and try to find a bargain from there on.
What do you think? Any advice?
P.S: Although not my primary choice due to visa issues, too much work, I could possibly look at a return ticket to any European hub and buy a ticket to LAX from there)

You are aware that these miles will expire if you do not take a miles-gaining flight ever so often ? There are new rules in the FB program ...
Are 45000 miles enough to get you a oneway ticket to LAX (to the U.S.) in Business Class ? It is 45000 miles from Germany ...
Then buy a cheap oneway ticket in eco back from the U.S. to IST (or the other way round).
Or try to get your hand onto the BBJ-service to IAH from AMS. Award tickets usually are quite well available. Truely an experience !
